Epic story about a trip to get MLB08 the show (from OPS forums)

I just read it there and decided it was very worth a link from here to read and comment, read at least until page 6 for the drama resolution.

This is internet, a big but small world.

Ok. I'm only on post 1, but I'm hooked.. Great link :)

I read this before coming here this morning. Great story.

I had no idea that a baseball game would do that to people. I might need to pick this game up when it comes out to see what the fuss is about. I thought people only do that for madden.

Based on past year version and what i have seen so far for the new one, i realy really wish that Madden developers could sit down to play this for a few hours to see what can be done with a PS3 at full 60FPS. With College Hoops this is my favourite franchise console game and have it preordered since 3 months ago, if i don't drive to buy it it's because there are "a few" miles from Spain to USA :)

Eaglesfan27 03-02-2008 11:08 AM

That story actually gave me a slight twinge to run out and get a PS3 ;)

Seriously, cool story. Thanks for linking Icy, or I would have missed it. My wife tolerates my gaming, but I can't imagine her riding/driving 400 miles to look for a game with me.

Heck, I can't imagine driving 400 miles myself for any game that I could get a few days later. Maybe 10 years ago.. shrug. Very cool of JSky to drive part of the way to meet him.

MJ4H 03-02-2008 11:10 AM

Id drive 6 hours round trip for smash bros brawl right now. That's about it though.

Raiders Army 03-02-2008 11:46 AM

Incredible story. I'd drive 400 miles easy if I was in a road-trip mood. I just ran from Dallas to El Paso on Friday from 5 PM to 3 AM after a day of interviews. Sometimes it's more than just for the game. Sometimes it's the experience itself.

There is way to much man love on that board.

If one of you did that I would find the game and sell it on ebay.

Icy 03-02-2008 11:59 AM

I'm more impressed about his wife than about himself. As Eagelesfan27, my wife tolerates my gaming as i do her hobbies, but not that she loves it.

Also great from the other forum member to go there to pick the game.

MJ4H 03-02-2008 12:21 PM

Yes it is impressive to throw your husband's new video game in the trash.

:D

Izulde 03-02-2008 12:22 PM

What an incredible story. Really made my day. :)

+1 :D

Great story. What a nice slew of releases for Sony this week. The Show for both the PSP and the PS3. (I travel a ton, I'll end up getting both) Also God of War for the PSP. I'd probably buy Bully, but with this grouping of releases, Sony will get all of my cash this week.

That truly is an epic story, thanks for sharing.

Am I the only one who thinks that guy is a dumbass? I mean to me that is a problem. Maybe I don't take gaming as serious as I thought but that was one major waste of money to get a game he already had pre-ordered and half paid for, just so he could have it 3-4 days earlier.

Also, I may be biased but I think that thread would have been 10x better on FOFC. The best post was near the end...

Skerik picked me up a copy. I just had to "take care" of his wife while he made the long trip.

MizzouRah 03-02-2008 01:36 PM

I remeber driving to Columbia, Mo - about 2 hrs away so I could get a copy of FPS Football '98. Karma bit me right in the ass when after installing it, it would error when trying to run the game! My friend and I couldn't even play the game without Sierra having to patch it first!

Never did that again.

You are right by the way, still a great story :)

I agree with you.

I kept waiting for the guy to get to the gas station and have no one be there

Swaggs 03-02-2008 02:41 PM

Cool story and outcome.

I think I would have felt like such a dumbass for having it happen that I would not ever have told anyone, though. :)

I am more impressed his wife is still alive. I mean, she accidentally threw the game out? How the heck do you do that?

Chief Rum 03-02-2008 02:47 PM

Read further along and have to admit it's pretty cool she was down for the trip, and then offered to drive back to get it later on.

Still amazing to me that anyone can throw a new game out and not recognize it for what it is.

Chief Rum 03-02-2008 02:52 PM

Oh, and BTW, it would be tragic and hilarious if the game ended up being a buggy POS.

korme 03-02-2008 05:55 PM

I can't believe that shit happened in (relative to the U.S.) my backyard! I haven't found the game anywhere yet.
