In dire need of prayers

I have mentioed this before but I need a new one. My mother in law is in dire need of a heart transplant. A short while ago a virus attacked her heart and she went through all sorts of struggles. Basicly to make a long story short she needs a transplant.

Fast forward to today and her organs are shutting down, her kidneys have already and if she doesn't get a heart soon she will die.

The good news is they are doing surgery to instal something called an LVAD to basicly pump her heart.

The bad news is while this improves her situation short term she will need to wait 2 months to go back on the transplant list because the surgery is so evasive.

This hospital has a 80-90% success rate with this surgery but that is far from 100% and she is not a fighter, she has a very defeated spirt, understandably.

Today is also her 55th birthday.

I just ask wherever you are say a small prayer for her. Thanks.

damn, keeping her in my thoughts...

Don't lose faith. My mother-in-law was probably only a few hours from dying when she finally got the organ transplant she desparately needed. She's now entering her 8th year with a new organ. She was roughly the same age as your mother-in-law when it happened. Hopefully your family member does just as well.

The hard part comes when you realize that someone else died far before they should have in order to save your ill family member.

Sorry lathum :( I've said a prayer.

That's a sad story, Lathum--55 is way too young to die. I hope that everything works out for your mother-in-law and family.

PurdueBrad 03-10-2008 10:27 AM

Lathum, our prayers go out to you and your family.

terpkristin 03-10-2008 10:35 AM

Wow, Lathum, that's a horrible situation.
I'll be thinking of you, MM, and your family.

Thanks Mizzou, the part about your MIL makes me feel better.

And it is a very conflicted range of emotions essentialy waiting for someone to die an untimely death.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers, good friend. Stay strong.

My mother (who is considerably older) was in intensive care in November for nearly a week with heart-related issues. I didn't think she was going to make it, but prayers seemed to help and she's a bit better now. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Thanks everyone.

I just found out the surgery is at 3:00 and takes about 4-6 hours.

It is going to be a long night.

She got one? Great news! Best wishes on the surgery and recovery. Remember to be cautiously optimistic as the organ can reject in certain situations. Just take it one day at a time. If she makes it 5-7 days without any major setbacks, she should be good to go.

Good luck.

I think he meant for the LVAD, not a transplant...

Lathum 03-10-2008 01:13 PM

No, unfortunantly she didn't get a heart, the LVAD surgery take 4-6 hours.

Sweed 03-10-2008 01:23 PM

My father in law passed away 15 years ago at 58 due to heart disease. One of the greatest people I ever had the pleasure to know, I miss him still.

Your MIL and family are in my prayers.

Ah, sorry. Was excited for you for a second. :)

Edit: Just reread your initial post. Skimmed over the 2 month wait part evidently.

oliegirl 03-10-2008 02:40 PM

You and MM are in my thoughts and prayers Lathum.

Lathum 03-10-2008 07:20 PM

Just wanted to thank everyone. She just came out of surgery and it went well. The doctor said it was a good thing they did it because she was in worse shape then they initialy though.

Her body held up to the surgery which is huge considering she was in such bad shape but she isn't out of the woods yet. There is still concern of infection and blood clotting but we can only go one step at a time and she is through step one.

Thanks again everyone, I am really honored to be a part of this community where not only do people wish you well but they mean it. I know that those of you who said they would pray did and that it helped her through.

Great to hear, Lathum. Very good news.

I hope things continue to go well.

Hang in there.
