NY Gov. Spitzer Involved in Prostitution Ring
ZOINKS!!! From the NYTimes:
Spitzer Is Linked to Prostitution Ring By DANNY HAKIM and WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM Published: March 10, 2008 ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning. Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries from the Times. Mr. Spitzer, a first term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform an end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children. Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved. But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers. The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13. Mr. Spitzer appeared on a CNBC television show at 7 a.m. the next morning. Later in the morning, he testified before a Congressional committee. An affidavit filed in federal court in Manhattan in connection with that case lists six conversations between the man, identified as Client 9, and a booking agent for the Emperors Club. He had a difficult first year in office, rocked by a mix of scandal and legislative setbacks. In recent weeks, however, Mr. Spitzer seemed to have rebounded, with his Democratic party poised to perhaps gain control of the state Senate for the first time in four decades. Mr. Spitzer gained national attention when he served as attorney general with his relentless pursuit of Wall Street wrongdoing. As attorney general, he also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force. In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island. ”This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,” Mr. Spitzer said at the time. ”It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.” Albany for months been roiled by bitter fighting and accusations of dirty tricks. The Albany County district attorney is set to issue in the coming days the results of his investigation into Mr. Spitzer’s first scandal, his aides’ involvement in an effort to tarnish Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, the state’s top Republican. |
Meh. If Bubba can get a blow job and get away with it, I see no reason why this guy can't do the same. Some may see this as a positive for the governor.
|
This is going to kill the Dems nationally!

Really? I kinda doubt that, but, um, ok. |

Gotcha.

IMO he'll have to resign. He constantly drums the moral drumbeat and this would be hypocrisy at it's finest. See ya Gov.
|
If he plays the Clinton card, how does Hillary respond? :)
|
define "involved"...
|
Not surprising at all, being a Democrat!
|
$5500 / hr., is the alleged rate!
wow, Call me 555-1212! |
It amazes me what people get themselves into.
|
Better or worse than the most recent scandal by the Governor of New York's neighbor?
|
Relax, folks. He was probably just personally researching the ring to bring those involved to their knees.

Same here. Kudos, Kodos. |
What a country we live in where the end result of this will be that his wife is relieved he was fucking female prostitutes.
|
LOL
|
Yeah, like George Washington wasn't getting blown at least once a day in the white house by either sex.
|
"The first-term Democrat been considered a rising star among his party."
Damn you CNN and your typos! I wanted to see if you were referring to his status as "had been considered a rising star..." |
This can only help his Vice Presidential run. Cheney waited 12 hours before telling the world he shot someone in the face. Spitzer, the sly dog, waited several months.

Positive HIV test maybe...but damn ,some nice looking ho's hangin' with mr Spitzer |

Ha! They caught the typo and it is "had". Dude's career is already being referred to in the past tense. |

He has a wide stance!

As an attorney, he's got to be the biggest idiot I've seen in some time. My guess is he decided to "go pro" to keep from having to deal with the messiness of a real relationship, but in doing so, he likely caused himself a world of legal problems:
"Federal prosecutors rarely charge clients in prostitution cases, which are generally seen as state crimes. But the Mann Act, passed by Congress in 1910 to address prostitution, human trafficking and what was viewed at the time as immorality in general, makes it a crime to transport someone between states for the purpose of prostitution. The four defendants charged in the case unsealed last week were all charged with that crime, along with several others." |

Your number, she be busy.... |
Quote:
see, I wasn't sure of that either. Why would they mention a "ring" if he had just paid to play? |
Maybe this partially answers your question:
"The New York Sun reports that the investigation was run by U.S. attorneys who not only were probing individuals linked to the ring, but who are part of the federal public corruption unit that investigates wrongdoing by elected and unelected officials." |
"Reinsurers throughout the northeast were seen dancing on their desks this afternoon..."
|

Yep! Although we made some nice coin off all those issues, so I probably should be grateful for the Spitzers of the world. |
So did she spitzer or swallows?

the coolest part (i saw on the news) is that WHEN he resigns...the Lt. Gov who takes over will be
1) The 2nd Black Governor in the history of the U.S. 2) The 1st ever legally-blind governor in history |
Why is that so cool? It isn't like he was elected to the position.
|
Bill's hoping Barack doesn't accept the Veep role for Hillary so he can jump in and then whack his wife and become president again.
|
Quote:
He was elected LtG, though. |
Quote:
4th overall, but third to serve since Reconstruction. Douglas Wilder of Virginia was first ever elected in 1990, then Deval Patrick of Massachusetts was second in '06 or whenever he was elected. There was also a black Governor of Louisiana (biracial if you're not a fan of the one-drop rule..but then, what say we about Obama) who took over during Reconstruction for a month as Senate President Pro-Tem after the Governor was impeached and the LtG there (who was black) died in office. |

So that's what the definition of "is" is! I've been wondering ;) SI |
Quote:
my bad. I meant to say 2nd currently serving |

From what I understand, this whole thing began as an alert over the large sum of money leaving his account. This began as a corruption investgiation, and turned into something more (or less, depending on your view of things). Obviously, one would hope Democrats were not the only target and similar large sum transfers of any elected official would be looked at as well. |
![]() She kinda looks like Jennifer Aniston, but about 15 years older. Hey, maybe he can argue they were on a break! |
what a doofus. they all don't look as good as that when they get to be her age. she looks for the most part to be rather bangable.
|
What a douchebag!
The affidavit says that he met with the woman in Room 871 but does not identify the hotel. Room 871 at the Mayflower that evening was registered under the name George Fox. One of the law enforcement officials said that several people running the prostitution ring knew Mr. Spitzer by the name of George Fox, though a few of the prostitutes came to realize he was the governor of New York. Mr. Fox is a friend and a donor to Mr. Spitzer. Asked in a telephone interview on Monday whether he accompanied Mr. Spitzer to Washington on Feb. 13 and 14, Mr. Fox responded: “Why would you think that? I did not.” Told that Room 871 at the Mayflower Hotel had been registered in Mr. Fox’s name with Mr. Spitzer’s Fifth Avenue address, Mr. Fox said, “That is the first I have heard of it. Until I speak to the governor further, I have no comment.” "George, I'm sorry, really I am. But Ron Mexico was already taken! What was I supposed to do?!" |
