Total Pro Golf FREE at Wolverine Studios
Hey all, I know its tourney time and you can get your fix for that with DDS: College Basketball at our site but there are a few people that aren't into the tourney so we thought now would be a good time to do this. We're making TPG1 freeware!
You can go to http://www.wolverinestudios.com/news.php?id=51 and there's a link there to grab it. You can get all the courses you want for free to at www.tpgcommunity.net (all courses work with TPG1 and TPG2). There's mods and other stuff in our forums too. Enjoy! |
Excellent, Gary. Thanks for the handouts!
Awesome promotion. I hope this works out for you guys.
Thanks Gary. Definitely going to download that.
Thanks Gary

Downloaded and playing now. Thanks!

oh hell, i was just about ready to pay $10 for this new card game that came out too. perfect timing.
Does this mean that a TPG3 might be in the works?

Well our email newsletter we sent out today did say we would have a big announcement next Wednesday. It could be anything! :D |

I'd love to sign up on your mailing list but it's broke. When I try to signup and type in my email address (because that is all it asks for), and then hit "Submit" I get the following error message. Signup Error Error You have not entered all the required details. Please go back and try again. |
hmm, we just signed up with a new service. Must have done something incorrectly on our signup page. I'll post as soon as I figure it out. Thanks
Very cool move.
Going to give this some playtime this afternoon. |

It's working now. Sorry about that, I changed something this morning and broke it. |
Thanks, downloading now.
Damn you Gary. Thanks for getting me addicted to a golf sim right before the baseball season and a certain unnamed baseball games beta testing starts. Now I will have to go to work, beta test and play TPG. My wife and kids are not going to be happy when I dissapear for long stretches of time. :D

6 straight titles, $30 million in winnings, move over Tiger...
So when I'm playing around, should I just be choosing a shot and letting the computer rip?
That's how I played my first two rounds, but is that "gimping" myself? How important is micromanaging your shots and clubs in the game? I get the feeling it's not that important, but I'm also an idiot when it comes to golf so I don't know if it defaults to questionable decisions. Looks like an interesting game so far. |
I would definitely choose the club myself - the default aim is usually pretty solid unless you want to specifically do something like aim for a section of the green or lay up prior to a water hazard. In TPG2 there are some more options like being able to fade or draw a shot as well as being able to play in a tri-click mode
Played for a bit before I came into work. Fun game, but I couldn't figure out how to play in a tournament during career mode. I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing... Any hints?
Thanks Gary. Will really try it out tonight.

Dola
On the weekly schedule. |
I looked on the weekly schedule and saw the tournament, but the "Play Round" button wasn't available.
you may not have been eligible for that weeks tournament. There are a few you are restricted from unless you have wins or so much money or are highly rated. The first on the main pro tour is one of them.
I signed up for the Junior circuit thinking I wouldn't qualify for the major tournaments with a new career.
How do you tell if you're qualified? |
oh, there's also not necessarily a tournament every week - especially on the junior circuit. When there is a tournament you will see it available to you starting on Thursday in your weekly calendar
Yep, got that, but I can't actually play in it. I'll keey playing and see if I can figure it out.
An icon pops up, it isn't available until there is a tourney, it's next to the play round icon, you need it highlighted by Thursday
Thanks!
Yeah, I'm thinking I just haven't qualified for a tourney yet.
Thank you, Mr. Gorski.
No problem guys - I only wish more guys would give it a shot - hey, its free now, what can you lose? It's a fun game and there's a ton of free courses available for it. It's one of those games you don't need an hour to sit down and play - you can easily play a whole four round tournament in the time it takes you to play a round of Tiger Woods or something plus its not graphic intensive so its perfect for the office - not that anyone would do anything other than work at the office ;)
I've installed it, but I get weird graphical problems. Is there a thread you can point me to that mentions this? All the images, buttons, etc. seem off.

I can't putt my way out of a wet paper bag. Any suggestions?
Try to hit into safe areas of the green and practice your short game.

I have been practicing my short game on non-tourney days. What defines a safe area of the green? I'm guessing away from the fringe, but I just get so frustrated. I hit normal and it rolls right over the mouth of the hole. I hit safe and it dies a foot short. I get on the green in 2 and end up 4 putting a par 5, killing my will to play. |
You may just be a bad putter, it depends on your abilities also. You can tell what areas of the green are safer by using the elevation arrows.
Is this not "Vista compliant"? When I try to install it nothing happens, kind of like it goes into some unknown dimension.
Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator.
also in regards to the putting - TPG1 was meant strictly as a "sim". You manage your golfer's career and can manange his way around the course by choosing club type and shot area but the results were meant to be determined simply by your ratings so in order to be a better putter you needed to work on that skill over the course of your career. It was not meant to be like TW where you could just shoot 20 under par because you're sweet at moving a mouse.
In TPG2 we added in a tri-click option which gave a more arcade type experience to it (the original style of play remained too). So for things like putting it opened the option of accuracy based on how well you could stop the bar at the lines as is the case with tri-click golf. If you want to see it in action download TPG2 - there's a free trial before you buy it. |

I love your games, but the TPG2 tri-click option will go into my "one of the best ideas/worst implementation" book. I like what you tried to do, but using it is an EXTREME excercise in patience. If the thing moved any slower it wouldn't move at all. I have a pretty fast PC and the thing moves like molasses in the wintertime. If you do a TPG3, I would scrap the tri-action bar and focus on revamping the putting game which remains the games weakest component. Allowing the user to aim their puts on a green with relief might be something to look into. You could still use the overhead view, but the user would need to account for slopes and breaks. -Cork |
That's odd - we've heard that happening on a couple of PCs but on some the meter works just fine. Thanks for the feedback - if there is a TPG3 I will definitely consider that.
