I know there will probably be some political comments, but the sheer number of quality movies he has been in is astonishing. He was one of the better actors of alltime - and timeless as well.

Galaril 04-05-2008 11:43 PM

Yes regardless of what he believed politically he was great actor and being I grew up watching alot of his movies e.g Planet of Apes, Ben Hur etc. I am sad to see him go.

kingnebwsu 04-06-2008 12:15 AM

Wow, that's awful :( Truly a remarkable actor.

Crim 04-06-2008 12:57 AM

Godspeed, Mr. Heston.

stevew 04-06-2008 01:02 AM

Damn dirty Alzheimer's :(

cartman 04-06-2008 01:23 AM

Now someone can pry the gun from his cold dead fingers.

/too soon?

stevew 04-06-2008 01:43 AM

i believe there is a 5 day waiting period.

Most people remember Heston in his more famous movies like "Ben Hur" and "Planet of the Apes", but I'll always remember him in two bizarre movies: "The Omega Man" and "Soylent Green" (which was the last picture that Edward G. Robinson appeared in before he died). Take a look at these trailers:

I too liked "Omega Man'. I heard that they filmed the scenes of him driving in downtown L.A. at sunrise on a weekend, and it looked exactly like that. They didn't have to stop traffic to empty the streets.

On a side note, "Omega Man" and the recent "I Am Legend" are based off of the same novel, Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend".

hukarez 04-06-2008 03:05 AM

Wow.. :(

R.I.P., Charlton Heston.

A-Husker-4-Life 04-06-2008 09:21 AM

What a great actor, RIP Charlton you'll be missed..

Bonegavel 04-06-2008 10:04 AM

wow, the art-of-the-trailer has come a long way.

RendeR 04-06-2008 10:43 AM

RIP Sir, you were one of the greatest.

JPhillips 04-06-2008 11:27 AM

He's certainly an important actor given the movies he made in the first phase of his career, but great? I think he's overrated largely because he was in such over the top epic films. Based on his peers, would anybody really say he was one the best actors in Hollywood?

Regardless, it's a terrible way to go. Here's prayers for him and his family.

FWIW, I'm guessing my show tomorrow night will have lots of interviews with some of Mr. Heston's friends, so if you're interested in hearing more about the man, you may want to tune in. I'll try and post some specific info on guests when I have it.

Cam, do you have a website where you could listen via webstream?

stevew 04-06-2008 04:05 PM

www.nranews.com is the site where the show is available. There are also some of Heston's speeches in the archives section of the website.
