Congrats, fellas!

Eaglesfan27 05-01-2008 08:12 AM

Congrats guys. I still remember how exciting graduation was.

Pumpy Tudors 05-01-2008 08:44 AM

Congratulations. I was late for my graduation.

JetsIn06 05-01-2008 01:31 PM

Congrats man! I didn't know what I wanted to do until the end of my sophmore year, so I took a few classes that aren't counting and I have to go one more semester, but I can't wait any more! Good luck out there.

JediKooter 05-01-2008 02:49 PM

Congrats to all. How are the job prospects looking or have any of you started? It was exactly a month from the time I graduated to starting my first 'post' college job.

Logan 05-01-2008 02:53 PM

Quick, it's not too late to fail something. There is absolutely nothing to be excited about.

I've been really frustrated by the whole process. I'm still interviewing for teaching positions at this time without any success. I haven't had an official offer yet, but I did get one conditional offer from a school district in far southeastern Oklahoma. They have to wait until the person I would replace is offered the job she applied for at another school before offering me the position. I'll be applying for some more positions in the coming days hoping to get an offer in the Oklahoma City area, so I can be close to my son.

I'm also hoping to get hired soon because three of my fellow English Education graduates have been hired this week. The later in the process the worst the choices to teach. In fact, one of my fellow English grad was hired by the school that I am student teaching at, but I was not even interviewed. Apparently, she has some kind of pull within the district, so she was offered the job immediately. :(

I was accepted into Arkansas's MA in English program (and may yet get accepted into San Jose State's, as a side note), so I'll be going there. I'm just waiting to see if I get a teaching assistantship, which I may not know for sure until summer.

As far as a summer job goes, I'll be working at VS again part-time for at least until I manage to secure a full-time job for the summer. If I can't get anything full-time, I'll get a second part-time job and just work two part-time jobs for the summer then.

Tough luck, ducky, but keep plugging away and you'll land something. :)

I wouldn't feel too bad about not even getting an interview at the place you student-taught at. A lot of those types of decisions can be heavily influenced by politics (then again, what in life isn't?), so if she had pull within the district, she would've been hired anyway.

I hope something comes up for you soon and be close to your son. Is the education field normally like this or is it just a bad time right now for that career field?

That really sucks about the job at the school you are at right now. I think the pull that she has are probably the ones on her chest.

Good luck and I hope something comes your way very soon.

That's cool. The more offers the better in my opinion.

Do you have a preference where you want to go or is it more of a 'go where the work is' type thing?

stevew 05-01-2008 08:32 PM

Today is my last official school activity (Portfolio Day). Then, I have to make up a couple of sick days for my student teaching obligation, and I will be done. :)
