Games download question

Alright guys, with all the talk about another horse racing game and then some discussion regarding Omni-Play Horse Racing, I went on a hunt for the game. I found two websites that claim to offer it for download, although I have no familiarity with either site. Does anybody know anything about either of these sites?

free-game-downloads.mosw.com
or
download-full-games.com

Not sure if I want to risk my laptop by using these sites as I'm not that handy if something were to go wrong. Any advice or thoughts would be a big help, thanks!

And actually, perhaps most importantly, let me throw this site out there as it offers not just the base game but the stable owners disk as well:

thegamearchives.com

I haven't used either of those, but they're the kind of url's that would make me nervous.

Have you tried Home of the Underdogs? I usually go there for abandonware games....

That's for Omni-Play. I haven't seen Racing Breed anywhere other than their site and am still obsessed with it so haven't needed to look for any other racing games lately.

Nah, with something like Racing Breed, I would buy it and support the programmers. I just can't find Omni-Play for purchase anywhere, just for download through some iffy sites. I'll check Home of the Underdogs.

The Underdogs site is always the best place to look for freeware/abandonware. They do a great job at that site. It's always a fun place to go look for a game when you're looking to try out some old games at no cost.

I am confused. Is this the game you are talking about?

Thanks guys, I found the Sport of Kings version of the game there. I will likely download it (assuming I can figure out how to run it in pure DOS mode). It doesn't sound like S.O.K. includes the stable owner addition but that's okay.

No, it got me thinking of the other mentioned game, Omni-Play from 1989 and I was trying to find it.

Awww....ooops.

Pretty sure that the DOSBox application is a miracle from heaven in regards to running games in DOS.

Ahh, awesome Mizzou, will locate it next. Thanks!

I had never realized that the stable owners disk ever came out for Omni-Play/Sport of Kings (same game, two different names). The people at Mindscape were so ambitious with their Omni-Play games. They had planned to release multiple modules for their basketball and horse racing games, and I believe they only managed to put out one module for each game. Those games were a lot of fun, but it's disappointing that their potential was never reached.

Yeah, the stable's owner disk was an amazing addition. Horse auction, training, race entry, jockey selection, etc. and just really gave a deep feel to the game. I know they also released a track creator/editor as well. It really had amazing potential as a franchise. The stat-tracking was well ahead of its time as well.

I never encountered the basketball game and actually had never heard of it until I started my search today.

Me neither. I was waiting to be able to activate that button.

I had the basketball game and it was pretty neat for what it was. There was a lot of ambition for it that never got realized, though. They were going to do college as well as pro, which was in the original module. I know I spent a fair amount of time in the 7th grade daydreaming about the possibilities of matching up all-time college teams in that game because of the potential it was going to have college teams to play with.

Was that the game where you could create players? I spent many, many, many hours with that game. Side view or Side Court or something like that.
