strength vs technique
I've been wondering this. the the offensive and defensive line. whats the difference between pass rush strengh and pass rush technique. simalarly with the o-line what does heavy blocking strength do the pass blocking and run blocking not do? any tests or hypothesis would be appreciated

I would guess they are, as in real life, mutually inlusive skill sets. A very strong but weak skilled OL can be as effective as a very technically skilled, but weak lineman.
Im guessing also, that when players match up, the balance of power/technique comes into play, as to who will beat who. Or maybe, when similiarly skilled linemen clash, the stronger might more often come on top. This is actually very intriguing. |
It may be uncorroborated, but I am a firm believer that technique is more important than strength. I think there may have been a test on this awhile back that supported this, but I am not sure. You may want to search for it.

My very limited experience is technique leads to more hurries.
While strength leads to more knockdowns and sacks. |
It's about matchups. A guy with high pass rush strength will have a better shot at beating a guy with low blocking strength, even if he has lower skills.

I have no specific data to back it up, but it's been my experience that PR technique seems to be more vital to DE's and PR strength more vital to DT's.
