Alright Boyz!! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Early reviews are in as the movie premiered at Cannes today. Indy looks good and lots of references to the early movies (as well as other Spielberg/Lucas movies).
What are your plans to see it and when you do, did you like it? |
i'm looking forward to it, if only for nostalic values. i do intend to wait for at least 2-3 weeks after (general) release, though. my inner bucca, er, curmudgeon really, REALLY, REALLY dislike extraneous noises (i.e., not from the movie itself) at the movies.
|
I can't wait.
|
We are planning on going on Thursday afternoon...we were going to go Wednesday night to the midnight showing, but my son is having some friends spend the night - end of school sleepover - so we can't make that. Really looking forward to it though, looks like it was well done and is staying true to the feel of the original movies...
|
It's the CGI. I can't get used to it. Indy and CGI just don't work for me. I don't know why, am I the only one?

I'm the same way. The theatere by us has 10:00 AM showing that are $5.00 so it is cheep and usually not to crowded |
The most anticipated movie of my life. I can't wait. Probably going Thursday afternoon, and again friday night.
|
I'll be going at midnight the opening night with some friends and then a week later with my wife. Can't wait for this, Indiana Jones is one of my favorite movies. Contemplated buying the figures...you know..for my son. :)

I'm also the same way. This is the main reason I wanted a media room in my house and why I rarely go the movies unless it is something Mrs. E wants to see in the theater. |
Think it could have a $150m weekend (F-S-S) and a $250m 3-day?
|
Quote:
Same here, for a different reason. I get frustrated in theatres and have to wait for the DVD release. :( |
Quote:
frustrated about what? |

I dunno, I'm not sure how it tracks with the <25 crowd. Should pull in massive numbers from people between mine and your age though. Hell, I may take my dad, and he NEVER goes to the movies. |
Going to see it. Prepared to be dissapointed. Hopefully, I won't be...but after Phantom Menace....
|
Two of my most memorable theatre experiences were this series. I went to Raiders the second weekend after it opened, with no expectations. I didn't even know what the movie was about. Suffice to say, I left the theatre stunned with a buzz that lasted a long time. Remember, this was before home videos and I must have went to see this movie about 12-15 times that summer and fall all over San Diego. I recall Grossmont theatre (big screen) had this movie for 3 years or something like that.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, my buddy and I went to the opening day of Temple of Doom, standing in line for the early showing. I had never been so disappointed with a movie as that one (considering the high expectations) and to this day, I hate that movie with a passion. |
I'm going to see it but there are things higher on my list of summer movies

Not hearing well or actually, hearing badly. :( |

Agree. After a great beginning, Temple of Doom went south quick. Of course, The Last Crusade kind of made up for the previous film's suckiness. Like I said, I'm going to this one without expectations...well, ok, silently rooting for it not to suck. |
Well, to add to the theatre experience, I do have put Crusades up there. My brother and I went to see it in a small theatre on Maui. That was certainly memorable.
|
Very much looking forward to seeing this. My most anticipated movie of the year.
|
Taking an extended lunch from work to go see it.
|
Raiders of the Lost Ark will always be in my top 3 movies of all time, so I really should be looking forward to this one more than I am. I think it's the trailer... Did nothing for me...
|
Going at midnight with my dad. Been looking forward to this movie for a long time.
|
The trailers have been pretty weak. I understand wanting to keep the plot in secret for awhile, but they give absolutely nothing. Joe Movie Goer is going to need a bigger reason than simply "I'm Indiana Jones, Bitch" to go out and see the flick.

Nah... not really. |
I got my hat and whip ready to go...wait we're not talking about sex are we?
I am going this weekend, probably Saturday night. I had to make a deal with the devil to go see this flick so it better be good. |

I find it amusing that someone says Indy and CGI don't work for him. What, did they think the scene when they opened the Lost Ark was done with a bunch of people with high powered sparklers?
|
From what I understand, the CGI is minimal by today's standards.
|
Temple of Doom wasn't the terible movie everyone makes it out to be. Granted it wasn't great, but there were some great parts:
The opening scene The two swordsmen The rail car chase Now other than that it did suck. |
Temple of Doom would have been great if it added one thing...Willie's tits.
|

Wait, Willie Ames was in that? |
I have no real expectations for this movie. My excitement for it is luke warm. I will probably see it the weekend after it opens.
I am just so not that excited about it. I feel bad. Indy's great. I don't care how old Harrison Ford is. Cate Blanchett is divine. I like Shia Labouf and Ray Winstone, but there's just something about it... I reckon it's the Lucas taint. I fear it so. And, like Yoda said, "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. And hate leads to suffering..." My how I've suffered. |
I'm confident that Spielberg cancels out any Lucas taint.
|
It's getting a mediocre review on Yahoo...2 out of 4 stars...

Shia LeBoeuf=fail
|
I'm going dressed as Short Round

But Indy films are the perfect Lucas vehicle. He comes up with a story and SOMEONE ELSE actually writes the script and fills in the minor details. Nothing to fear there. No, he can't write dialogue for shit. Yes, he is still a great storyteller. |
Quote:
???? explain please. Other then transformers, which is a paycheck movie, his movies have been great the last 2-3 years. |
Quote:
While I have nothing against Shia LeBouf, what movies are you referring to exactly? "Constantine"? "The Greatest Game Ever Played"? "A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints"? "Bobby"? "Disturbia"? Other than voice work in "Surf's Up", that's his entire catalog of movies over the last 2-3 years. I heard decent enough things about "Disturbia", I thought "Constantine" was ok (though completely off the source material), I never really heard anyone call any of those other moves "great". |
Lebouf was really good in "The Greatest Game Ever Played".
|
Quote:
I guess im refering to: the Battle of Shakur Heights (good) Disturbia (very Good) The Grestest game ever played (great) A guide to recognize your saints (great) I think he was fantastic in each of these flicks. I think his career path will patteren Leo DiCaprio. |
Quote:
Totally agree, and ill add in that i loved his cameo in I, Robot. I also enjoyed him quite a bit in Bobby, which i found him hysterical in. |
Quote:
You want to feel old all of a sudden? Stop and realize that the actor who played Short Round is 36 now. |
What is up with people dogging LeBeouf? He's a very young actor and he's already got a hit list to be proud of.
|
Guess I'm in a definite minority that I didn't think The Temple of Doom was that bad. There are several good scenes in it even if Short Round is annoying.
Yeah, it's the worst of the 3, but it's a decent movie. Raiders is the best though. My wife surprised me yesterday, got all 3 of the updated released for $10 from Target. :) I'll watch them this week to get ready. I've read some good reviews on Crystal Skull from bbc.com and some other London newspaper sites from the Cannes review. Usually they pan stuff like this, so I am optimistic about it. |

Heck, I enjoyed "Holes". |

I'm going as Jar Jar Binks. |

80% fresh as of 5/20 at 2:15 AM EST. That's pretty darn good. I seriously was expecting a 54%. I put a lot of faith in Rotten Tomatoes...especially when it comes to mainstream movies. I think I may have to see this one now... |
