2008 World Series of Poker thread.........

It unofficially began yesterday with a $500 megasatellite for the main event. The first event begins today with the $10K PL Championship. Likely to see a great field of pros in that event.

Anybody on the board planning to play in an event?

NoSkillz 05-30-2008 10:34 AM

Someone page the ballerz, yo!

Lathum 05-30-2008 10:42 AM

unless I'm mistaken the super satallite was yesterday and the 10K PL Holdem event is today, not Omaha.

Thanks, I obviously missed a day somewhere. :)

Even more exciting that we'll see some tourney chip counts later today.

So the guy who ran the Sex Symbol draft is going to hanging out with Lathum's wife?

I think the draft strategy has been explained.

I'm planning on entering event #39 on June 21st, another $1500 NL Holdem event.

seems like a worthwhile trade to me

It's a shame we don't have a pool this year. That's been fun.

that totaly slipped my mind this year also.

We could throw one together probably

Lathum 05-30-2008 03:09 PM

dola- I pinged Larry who has run it the past few years, I would do it myself but I will be at the WSOP for a week and will be moving during the main event so I wouldn't have the time to run it.

Nice to see Matasow take one down and Lindgren get his first.

5 days and counting for my event...

You going to play much in the side games or just play the tourney? Where are you staying?

We are staying at a time share called the Polo Towers. It's on the strio between MGM Grand and Planet Hollywood.

I would love to play alot of side games because I hear they are juicy and I was out there for on night last week on a layover and it appears they are easy games.

However, I am going with my wife and SIL who lives in England and Captain2711 so I will be expected to spend some family time.

We also just bought a house so my budget is limited, but I'll find some time to play in some games, my wife is really cool about stuff like that. But if I cash in my event it will be a much eaiser sell.

By the way, just noticed Matasow's victory picture over at LasVegasVegas. He looks great. That 'lose some weight' bet with Forrest was probably one of the best side bets he's ever mad for himself.........

yeah, really glad to see him getting his life together.

I have always been a big Matasow fan. I ran into him at the Borgota 4 years ago and he hung out and talked poker, etc... with me and my friends for about 15-20 minutes. It was before he got really popular, but still a pretty cool move by him to take the time.

st.cronin 06-13-2008 12:24 PM

Less than 50 hours til I arrive in Vegas. GIDDY!

Lathum 06-13-2008 12:30 PM

yeehaw

Was excited to see Negraneau picked up a bracelet. My wife and I both really enjoy watching him play. I know that he's got a 600 page book that's soon to be released that is similar to Super System in that he had several different people write a section for his book. Should be a great read.

Also, for those of you looking for a new poker book, Gus Hanson's new book is very good.

I'm saying this knowing the double irony in this (Vegas betting and my own diet).

There's no way he keeps to his current weight. I'd bet that he doesn't in fact.

He was still 240 pounds in January, and crashdieted. (running six miles a day, etcetera).

When he was still 8 pounds short of his goal with four days left, he went to a fad diet,

"So he went on what he told me was “the lemonade diet.” He ate nothing and drank a limited amount of a mixture of lemonade, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. His only regret was that he didn’t discover this miracle fasting formula earlier."

We'll hope for the best and expect the worst. :)
