Help with Idea..Sounds initially geeky, but when revealed, will be fun..

Alright,

I am needing some help for an idea I have come up with that I will release here soon that I think almost everyone will enjoy....

So for this, still scratch your heads, wonder how crazy or idiotic I am, but please, be somewhat serious in your answers.

Some of us were/are geeks, play(ed) some fantasty based role-playing game. One of my favorite parts of role playing was character creation and naming my characters.

What I am looking or help in is the following: Naming some specific character types....

Dwarven War Priest
Human Ranger
Human Thief
Human Wizard
Human Priest
Halfling Cook
Elf Noble
Ork Warrior

I am going to take the names I feel are the best, and I might create a poll if there are a few different ones, but the take away from this, should be interesting...:D

Thanks all!

I just need help coming up with names for the specific character types I have listed, thats it...

It's for a project I am working on.

Fidatelo 06-04-2008 01:18 PM

I still don't get it. Am I naming different archetypes that aren't currently listed, like Elf Druid?

Or am I giving Dwarven War Priest some kind of 'term', like ork warrior being called "Uruk'Hai"?

Or am I literally supplying names for characters that might be of that mold, so like "my Dwarven War Priest is named Steve."?

Ah ok....

Sorry if I wasn't clear....

literally supplying names for characters...

ie. Dwarven War Priest is Thargin Battlehammer

Fidatelo 06-04-2008 01:24 PM

I like Steve better than Thargin, but I guess this is your game.

BrianD 06-04-2008 01:25 PM

I always enjoyed character creation, but hated the naming part. Most of my group was the same way. We tended to have fighters named "Fighter 1" and "Fighter 2".

I like "Steve" too, but think he should be the cook.

+1

I once created a cleric named "Church Giver". I am still mocked about that one.

Other names that friends have used for characters include Manny Pulator
and E. Normis Johnson.

Ah good, got my chuckle for the day in.

See, back when I had this problem (although it was naming planets for Traveller), I just wrote a name generation routine. It basically went something like:

Do vowel or consonant?
Do one or two?
Pick random vowel / consonants as appropriate
Do again?

I'd do it something like 2-8 times, with an emphasis on 3-6, and end up with some really cool completely random pronouncable names.

But then I'm actually a geek, not the pretenders that you guys are actually coming up with them in your head...

I think I've mentioned it before, but screen name here is actually created in a similar fashion. It went:

1) Mash keyboard
2) Add vowels in between consonants that are side-by-side

You need a character in there named Rath, as well.

Leseee if anyone remembers THAT reference.

I can't be the only person that grinds their teeth when people don't name their characters or use stupid names - (Like naming a Female Barbarian Tig Bitties)

Stupid geeky pet peeve... I know. :p
