If you could pick one band to get back together?

Who would it be. I am talking in terms of bands that have broken up like Van Halen, Soundgarden, etc... Not bands like the beatles that kind of ran their course.

For me it would be Rage against the Machine

Fidatelo 06-13-2008 12:33 PM

How exactly can you claim that The Beatles ran their course but not Van Halen???

RomaGoth 06-13-2008 12:34 PM

New Kids on the Block

Dola

Van Halen if Sammy Hagar is vocals. David Lee Roth has definitely run his course. ;)

easy, it's my thread.

but to answer your question, the spirit of it is more geared towards bands that split up before their time.

st.cronin 06-13-2008 12:39 PM

My Bloody Valentine

JediKooter 06-13-2008 12:39 PM

Not sure how you can say the Beatles ran their course. They actually broke up prematurely in my opinion. Had it not been for the constant in fighting and interference by certain band members wives, The Beatles would have been together well into the 70s. I say that because, many of the Beatles solo albums were basically Beatles albums with one member missing (usually McCartney), being replaced by Eric Clapton and others.

My vote is for The Beatles.

Edit: Regardless if it's your thread or not ;)

I changed my mind. Instead I would rather see Kid N' Play get back together.

Pyser 06-13-2008 12:41 PM

beatles is obvious

but realistically, ben folds five.

Dr. Sak 06-13-2008 12:43 PM

Fucking Yoko Ono!

DaddyTorgo 06-13-2008 12:46 PM

can an untimely death be the reason?

Sun Tzu 06-13-2008 12:49 PM

Pink. Floyd.

Toddzilla 06-13-2008 12:49 PM

The Clash

King of New York 06-13-2008 12:50 PM

Soul Coughing, Brian Jonestown Massacre

I would agree with My Bloody Valentine, except that Kevin Shields' solo-stuff--what little there is of it--sounds a lot like MBV.

Let's face it--whenever bands reunite, listeners usually wind up wishing that they hadn't. (Echo and the Bunnymen, I am looking at you.) At least The Pixies had the good sense not to write any new music, just to play the old stuff.

they are still around. unless you miss one of their 10-thousand specific lineup changes...

Though my wife tells me we are probably better off listening to Floyd the way they were than listening to a bunch of 60 year olds trying to sing trippy songs.

I didn't actually know that his solo stuff was available. I remember hearing that his demos were really awful and would probably never be released.

clintl 06-13-2008 12:58 PM

Confining myself to bands that actually could get back together because their members are still alive, one of these three...

XTC
Talking Heads
The Dream Syndicate (original lineup)

Swaggs 06-13-2008 12:59 PM

The end result would probably be a letdown, but GNR would be my choice.

MrBug708 06-13-2008 01:00 PM

Blink-182, but I would put them back in their early 20's

DaddyTorgo 06-13-2008 01:05 PM

If I could resurrect someone:

Queen

Draft Dodger 06-13-2008 01:06 PM

Van Halen would be my choice for bands who should just stop (and I am a huge fan). I don't want to see Floyd (or Zeppelin) together again for the same reason - I'd prefer not to have my memories tarnished, thank you very much.

Rage would be my choice as well.

Arles 06-13-2008 01:15 PM

INXS if I could resurrect the dead and get a mid-20s Michael Hutchence.

Caratacus 06-13-2008 01:21 PM

If resurrecting the dead is ok it would be The Ramones, just to see them play live again.

If not, Nightwish with Tarja back on vocal duty.

Young Drachma 06-13-2008 01:27 PM

Sleater-Kinney.

Passacaglia 06-13-2008 01:28 PM

Velocity Girl

Lathum 06-13-2008 01:29 PM

The reason why I basicly said no beatles is because they were an obvious choice, they had like 300 songs already and I just don't like them

Kodos 06-13-2008 01:33 PM

Yay! I don't like the Beatles either!

I'd go with Sammy Van Halen. Or Queen if we could resurrect people.

spleen1015 06-13-2008 01:51 PM

Creed

I <3 Scott Stapp!

lurker 06-13-2008 02:04 PM

Gotta be The Smiths.

Come on, how many other bands inspired a whole novel based on some dude obsessed with reuniting them?

thesloppy 06-13-2008 02:09 PM

All of my favorite played-out bands!

husker du
minor threat
chavez
pavement
minutemen
flying burrito brothers (or graham parsons era byrds)
archers of loaf
braid
love

most of those bands were still making good tunes when they split/died.

rowech 06-13-2008 02:12 PM

1. The Beatles -- sorry...there was much more there.

2. If you don't allow them, I'm going to say The Doors. As big as they are, I think they could have been huge.

3. Guns and Roses....I'm not sure they wouldn't be the greatest of all time by the time it was said and done.

Joe 06-13-2008 02:24 PM

WHAM!

PLD3009 06-13-2008 02:26 PM

Pink Floyd

Warhammer 06-13-2008 02:29 PM

Journey

Cringer 06-13-2008 02:32 PM

I have always wanted to see another Operation Ivy album.

Warhammer 06-13-2008 02:32 PM

Another I would like to see with a caveat is Styx, provided they went back to their roots rather than DeYoung's move to pop oriented music.

sabotai 06-13-2008 02:35 PM

Alice In Chains (if I can ressurect someone)

System Of A Down

strangely enough, Alice in Chains was my 2nd choice for resurrections. They're just...haunting.

korme 06-13-2008 02:53 PM

Lathum, I found a reason to like you again. (;)) You should have started this topic and closed the thread without any replies, since you won.

Husker Du is also a good call. So is The Smiths--talk about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts!

I'm glad to know that BJM is still around--I must've mistaken one of their line-up changes for the final implosion.

I thought about the Talking Heads, but I like all of them more on their own, personally.

Your wife is a wise woman. Angst doesn't wear as well when you can get a senior discount.

If we could resurrect Steve Perry's voice (which died in the mid 80s) I'd definitely agree.

And if we can resurrect entire people then I'd have to vote for the Beatles.

Mustang 06-13-2008 03:26 PM

For me, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Talking Heads and, of course, Devo. :D

If we could raise dead people, I'd say the Beatles and Joy Division.

path12 06-13-2008 03:26 PM

Dola, my pick would have been Camper Van Beethoven, but they got back together last year.
