I be loving Firefox3
Soooo speedy.
And the awesome bar is.... well, awesome. Great upgrade. This thing is lightening fast. |

You missed my negative comments about that horrendus-history bar in the firefox 3 upgrade thread :) Awesome bar is not a very good name for it I don't think :) |
I absolutely love it. I think it's bloody brilliant.
|
I'm glad they finally resolved that memory leak issue!

The problem I have with it that makes it so annoying is probably how I use the history bar. I have alot of different forums that I go to with different parts of the forum that i might be interested in at any point. The same thing goes for various online leagues that I am in as well. My browser behavior usually is instead of hunting around for wherever I saved the bookmark, I just type in part of the URL to that board as I remember it... Only takes me usually 2-3 key strokes before I get the entire history of various variations of that page.. I then quickly arrow down 2-5 times to the one that I want (do I want forums, main page, download, etc... or in case of forums, which forum do I want?) Maybe I just am not used to the new bar, but it looks so much noisier, it only has half as many entries viewable for me quickly and is just tougher for me to navigate, and is more a pain than anything. Maybe I just have always used the history bar incorrectly, but this change turned what was my most often used piece of the browser management into something that I can't even tolerate. So out of curiosity, what about the change makes it so much better in your mind? Just trying to see the other point of view to why they would even want it like this... |
Didn't know a new one was coming out, I rarely check and Firefox 2 says no new updates. I guess this is more then an update though...
Downloading now. |

+1 but it's so much speedier that I'll figure out how to work around that. |

Yeah, no one get me wrong.. I like FF3 so far as a whole. Just was commenting about the horrid-bar here. That is the only part I wish I could rip out. I'm not the type to dump an entire product because of one flaw (or I wouldn't use Windows). |
I usually just go to the forums or main page of a forum and thus getting that is fairly easy for me by typing in a few letters.
I hated how the history bar had all this useless stuff (usually corresponding to individual forum pages or thread links) I had to wade through to get to what I wanted. Now I type in a letter or two, and the page I got to the most will be the first link under the bar. I like how it orders based on preference. |
It does indeed rule.

Maybe I haven't used it enough to notice that ordering just yet then. And in the end I'm only talking about it slowing me down what? 6-10 seconds for each page I go to? Still it is the small annoyances that... well annoy :) |

You can go back to the old (worse :p) bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227 (which I found by using the awesome bar to go lifehacker ;)) |

Ahh outstanding! |
FF3 rocks the cazbah.
|
I have it installed and using it. What is this awesome bar crap though?

Yeah, I've missed the ordering too but I just downloaded it a little while ago. |

That may come in handy but for the time being I'm gonna try to get used to the new one. |

I'm doing the same. It is nice to know there is at least an alternative if I can never get past the annoyingness of it. Maybe I will learn to embrace it, who knows?? :) |

Ah, not something I used a ton anyways. It is prettier though, that's for sure. |

If it remembers where I go and starts ranking those first I'm sure I will since I kinda like the rest of the presentation if I'm looking for something specific. I'm not too optimistic though after a quick test. I found a site on my bar that I go to a lot and two of the sub pages is listed 1 and 2. They aren't pages I've been to often as they're pages on specific games I've downloaded and then never hit the pages again ( they were downloaded recently though ). The home page is the third one listed. I went there. Went to another site. pasted home page, went to another site, etc 8 times and the homepage is still listed as third. :( |

I'm really liking this, too. I've noticed a significant increase in efficiency (speed, resource usage) since installing it. The double-line history is neither good nor bad for me. It just kind of is. I don't use the history bar very often and when I do, this change doesn't affect it either way for me.

Can somebody tell me how to get the close tab button on each individual tab, instead of just 1 close button on the right of the tab bar?
|

You don't see little x's on the right side of each tab? I do. |
Maybe its your skin?
Because I see them on each tab too. |
No. I saw them right up until I installed this new version.
|
Interesting... I know they go away until the tab is active if you have a ton of tabs open. Could that be it?
|
It is not the skin either, I tried a bunch of them. I only have 2 tabs open as well. :(
|
I have the little x's too...
Downloaded Firefox 3 this afternoon and so far am loving it. I'm not overly picky about this kind of stuff so the weird address bar isn't really affecting me, haven't really noticed it at all actually. I'm definitely seeing a difference in speed which is great - so far so good :) |
I'm thinking of trying something new for once but need to know if Firefox will let me do this: There are 8 sites that regularly browse in my rotation and I strictly navigate, as I have been doing for years, by the down-down history bar in IE6 (which keeps the order of last visited). That way I don't have to type anything in or mess with Favorites (since it's full of junk anyways). Will Firefox allow me to do this?

try going to about:config and there'll be a setting called browser.tabs.closeButtons. Set that to 1 and you should get a close tab button on each individual tab. |
Damn...I DON'T like that it automatically restores your session after you closed it.
|
Quote:
Did you get a message the first time you closed your browser asking you about this option? I remember seeing it and made sure that I turned the auto-restore off. I'm not finding another place to get rid of auto-restore in 'Tools' at a quick glance, but maybe someone else out there has a deeper knowledge about where to access it than I do. |
Nope, I sure didn't. At least I don't remember seeing it...
Hmmm, at a quick glance, under the options menu, "When Firefox Starts" there's an option for "Show my Windows and Tabs from Last Time", but I already had "Show my Home Page" selected.. |
