George Carlin dead at 71

Alls i can say is bleh :(

Kodos 06-23-2008 12:19 AM

Wow. Lot's of people dropping recently. His "real sport" bit was great.

Chief Rum 06-23-2008 12:20 AM

That sucks.

He was a very liberal, political comic whose views didn't usually match mine, but damnit all, he was funny as heck. I'll miss having him around.

And to be honest, I am surprised he was as young as 71. Always thought he was older.

M GO BLUE!!! 06-23-2008 12:32 AM

ColtCrazy 06-23-2008 12:33 AM

Wow, wikipedia had it before cnn.

I'll miss Carlin, he was a very funny comedian. I have two of his books around here, funny stuff.

Shkspr 06-23-2008 12:44 AM

Fuck.

JediKooter 06-23-2008 01:23 AM

Damn. One of my favorites. World is now even more less funny.

-apoc- 06-23-2008 01:24 AM

BOOOOOOOO now I am sad :(

Galaril 06-23-2008 01:26 AM

Sooner or later, everybody does.

The key is to delay the exit (stage right) as long as possible, or if you can't do that, have as much fun as you can before you shuffle off the mortal coil.

Carlin always seemed to be the guy who found a laugh in anything, so I guess you can say 'mission accomplished' to the latter.

Axxon 06-23-2008 02:04 AM

Hit me like a gut shot. :(

Gonna miss you George.

M GO BLUE!!! 06-23-2008 02:11 AM

I'm on my third LP now.

You never realize how much someone talks of death until they're dead themselves.

Well, John Goodman's death was on Wikipedia before CNN.

Just sayin'.

Lathum 06-23-2008 02:27 AM

To bad, he was one of a kind

Karlifornia 06-23-2008 02:54 AM

Definitely a legend of comedy. RIP

MacroGuru 06-23-2008 05:25 AM

I am in a state of mourning now...He is, will be one of my favorite comedians.

I was not into comedians at all until my mom remarried. My step brother played a George Carlin LP one night in our bedroom and I could not stop laughing (I was 12). Ever since, he he has always been one of my favorites.

RIP George, you will be missed.

I think it was more a long the lines of Wikipedia being reputable...
  1. The Princess and the Frog (2009) (filming) (voice) .... Louis
  2. Bunyan and Babe (2009) (filming) (voice) .... Paul Bunyan
  3. Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009) (post-production)
  4. Gigantic (2008) (post-production)
  5. In the Electric Mist (2008) (completed) .... Julie 'Baby Feet' Balboni
I don't think he is that dead....

SirFozzie 06-23-2008 06:13 AM

In honor of the man, all I can say is...

shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits.

Welcome to the world of drug use.

Lorena 06-23-2008 08:23 AM

Aww man :(

Tekneek 06-23-2008 08:26 AM

I know it makes no sense, but it just seemed like he would be with us forever. Hopefully his works will be available forever, at least. :)

He will be missed. A guy who was able to touch people of multiple political and social views.

As did I, about 5 years ago. He didn't look so hot even then.

RIP - One of my favorite comedians.

MikeVic 06-23-2008 08:47 AM

:(

Maple Leafs 06-23-2008 08:49 AM

Wow.

Was just listening to his stuff on the way in to work this morning. Literally twenty minutes ago I was listening to the end of his "Jammin in New York", about how human life is temporary and the world will just keep spinning on without us.

Buccaneer 06-23-2008 09:00 AM

A lot of memories of Carlin while I was in high school.

My favorites were his two famous ones: seven words and the sports differences. I thought the latter was very clever but I have never personally agreed with it and slowly grew to dislike football because of it.

Noop 06-23-2008 09:04 AM

One of my favorite comedians. His last two specials on HBO were about death but he was still great. I will miss him.

:(

Kodos 06-23-2008 09:04 AM

I love the "driving 500 miles in circles doesn't impress me" line he had when talking about racing. And how real sports require the chance of an injury. In the end, football is the only real sport. Thanks to George for setting us straight. :)

"In football, you are penalized. In baseball, you make an error. 'Oopsie, I made an error.' "

MikeVic 06-23-2008 09:06 AM

Hahaha that sports one is great.

Bad-example 06-23-2008 09:27 AM

Damn...the man was a comedic genius. I especially loved when he would rant on about religion. The man knew bullshit when he smelled it.

ColtCrazy 06-23-2008 09:44 AM

A friend and I were talking about comedians we wanted to see live. Carlin was #1 on the list. :(

MacroGuru 06-23-2008 09:57 AM

Some of my favorites

Quote:

Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.

Quote:

One of the better ones on Sin

“If you woke up in the morning and said I’m going down to 42nd street and commit a mortal sin, save your car fare: you did it, man! It was a sin for you to want to feel up Ellen. It was a sin for you to plan to feel up Ellen. It was a sin to figure out a place to feel up Ellen. It was a sin to take Ellen to the place to feel her up. It was a sin to try to feel her up. And it was a sin to feel her up. There were six sins in one feel, man!”

ShaneTheMaster 06-23-2008 10:46 AM

RIP. The one comedian who proved it was okay to be intelligent and raunchy. :(

Izulde 06-23-2008 11:13 AM

Wow, I never expected this. :( Bummer news. :(

PackerFanatic 06-23-2008 11:40 AM

Very sad. He will be missed - one of the truly great comedians of all-time.

korme 06-23-2008 11:47 AM

This is just terrible... RIP George.

JediKooter 06-23-2008 11:47 AM

Gonna fire up Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure tonight.

Mike1409 06-23-2008 11:48 AM

RIP He was the best. Loved his religion rants.

I just moved him into my deleted file!

korme 06-23-2008 12:03 PM

I've got to bust out some of my Carlin DVDs today.

Don't forget Prior in that list. Was a big fan of Carlin though. He had a nice run.
