Common Sense regarding Privacy

I believe there are a couple of members here who have my phone number and home address. I would hope it would be common sense to ask me first before giving that out.

(There is some legal stuff going on with some distant relatives that I am trying to stay out of.)

Maple Leafs 07-11-2008 02:03 PM

I can still come by unannounced for a "visit", right?

st.cronin 07-11-2008 02:04 PM

Of course.

Poli 07-11-2008 02:05 PM

Oops.

Poli 07-11-2008 02:07 PM

To piggyback, if anyone has compromising photos of me, please ask for my permission before destroying me.

MikeVic 07-11-2008 02:07 PM

Uhh I got it from Poli, was it wrong to use it as my fake number?

Poli 07-11-2008 02:07 PM

I use his number at the bars.

st.cronin 07-11-2008 02:08 PM

By the way, this is a serious thread. My name is common enough that a google search isn't that helpful, but it would point to this board in the first couple of pages.

MikeVic 07-11-2008 02:08 PM

Ok I'll stop kidding around. I don't have your number.

rkmsuf 07-11-2008 02:10 PM

What works well in this situation is cash.

And don't go throwing around the blackmail word. Then everyone will have your address and think you are racist too.

Levity is fine. I just wanted the initial point to not get lost.

Poli 07-11-2008 02:15 PM

FWIW, I wasn't going to stop.

Gov. Richardson, is that you?

larrymcg421 07-11-2008 02:24 PM

I think this would be common sense, too. I wouldn't ever give someone's number out randomly.

I do understand your concern, though. There's one person here that knows how geeky I was in junior high, and I'd rather not let that get out.

Lorena 07-11-2008 02:29 PM

It's common sense not to give anyone's number, physical or email address. If anyone asks me for so-and-so's info, I'd check with this person before giving out any info.

st.cronin 07-11-2008 02:31 PM

I agree its common sense but there are some devious and crafty people involved in this. And those people can afford pretty good lawyers, too.

By the way, I never did figure out how Lorena got my address.

Poli 07-11-2008 02:39 PM

Oops.

MikeVic 07-11-2008 02:42 PM

She has my address too... maybe she works for the FBI?

Passacaglia 07-11-2008 02:56 PM

I gave it to MJ4H as my RPS choices.

Noop 07-11-2008 02:59 PM

I am a fan of privacy.

Lorena 07-11-2008 03:03 PM

ahahahahahaha, I have my ways ;)

No but seriously, I'd never give away anyone's info without their permission, privacy is a HUGE thing with me. And I mean HUGE.

Bonegavel 07-11-2008 03:44 PM

You are Archibald Cronin?

Kodos 07-11-2008 03:51 PM

Are you Kevin Cronin? Is it time for me to fly?

larrymcg421 07-11-2008 03:58 PM

Kyle, tell us about St. Cronin...

cartman 07-11-2008 04:25 PM

The only person I gave your contact info to was Mr. B. E. Sullivan of Olton, TX.

Just curious ... do you have reason to believe someone here has given out your number and address? From your postings here, I would give you enough credit to know that if someone wanted to find you, there are much places to do that than tracking you through a message board. I don't know your name but I'd be willing to bet that you give me an hour I could probably track you down, and if I were willing to plunk down a couple of dollars I could find you even faster.

Privacy is an illusion. If someone really wants to find you, they'll find you.

True, Mr. Navin R. Johnson.

Agreed. Unless you have paid extravagantly and intelligently for your privacy, and probably broken some federal and state laws to do so, you are easy to find. Heck, I know enough about you that I could probably find you in Lexis Nexis in 5 minutes, and that's a program used by bureaucrats, civil servants, financial people, information systems people, law enforcement and legal professionals--in other words--like 30% of the working population (at least).

And then there's Net Detective.

Seriously, though, I hope you don't get drawn into whatever you're trying to avoid, and if it is attempted, bite the bullet and tell them to leave you the fuck alone. ;)

Mustang 07-12-2008 12:04 AM

I hope the next time I move I get a real easy phone number. Something like 222-2222. I would say, "Sweet." People would say, "Mitch, how do I get a hold of you?" I would say, "Just press 2 for a while, and when I answer, you will know that you have pressed 2 enough."

No reason to believe anything like that has happened, and I agree with what you are saying. I just got a little creeped out yesterday, and went into paranoid mode. In retrospect, this is probably a silly thread.

Poli 07-12-2008 08:26 AM

I apologize if my wife called you.

st.cronin 07-12-2008 08:41 AM

I apologize if your wife called me, too.

Poli 07-12-2008 08:44 AM

I appreciate that.

And now you hang around all day on a board dedicated to text based sports sims. Yes, you're no longer a geek ;)

I'll smack that fool. He doesn't say 'hater' or anything when I ping him.

Its been a week or 10 days here too, I don't want you to think he likes me more than you because he asked me to not tell you that! :)

Poli 09-03-2008 10:24 AM

That's it. I'm deporting the both of you.

For the record, that isn't me. :)

Clarification: Sharing a board member's phone number is uncool, but it is still ok to etch it on a bathroom wall, right?

Shows what you know! I don't even LIVE in Lexis Nexis! In fact, I've never been South of the border (well, I've been to Taco Bell, but I don't think that counts).

Not bad, not bad at all.

Cronin dropped an email to me late last night saying that he's fine and asked me to let his friends know as well.

hhiipp 09-10-2008 08:04 AM

Alan, can you give me his number so I can call him just to verify?

I sure hope so. I've plastered all of the stalls at work with Pumpy-pics. Guys seem to spend a LOT of time in there...

That shit's going on at my work, too.

PUMPY IS WATCHING YOU POOP

By the way, gkb, is your wife feeling OK? I've been watching her poop lately, and she seems to be, uh, working a little harder than usual.
