EU3 with expansions, EU Rome or Crusader Kings with Deus Vault

I normally play real-time games, sports games and MMO's all online.

I do love grand strategy games, but for some reason I'm addicted to online play.

Well, I just had a son a week ago. So, I need to play a game I can pick up and put down anytime, so this knocks out online games like Company of Hereos, WoW, Age of Empires III etc...

Which would you guys recommend or if there is another game of this type that is better please suggest one.

I've also looked at knights of honor. That looks pretty nice also.

EU:Rome was a horrible disappointment, though maybe it's gotten better with mods.

My bias is obviously towards CK though I haven't picked up DV yet.

EU3 I have, but have never played yet. Too addicted to the individual personalities and intricacies of CK.

Someone else can speak more to EU3, but I strongly recommend against Rome.

Yep that is what I did, picked up DV and CK. Took a while to understand what is going on, but its working well now.

Does my marshall I appoint lead my troops or what? I'm trying to figure out who my troops are being lead by.

If you have a Marshall, he is the first guy to lead your troops (if you pick the smallest province, he leads that force). If you have more then one province, then another courier or your king will lead that force

As far as I know (unless it's changed in DV), if it's the capital province, your king leads the army unless he's either A) wounded or B) still in regency (under 16 years old).

If it's a non-capital province, your Marshal will be the first one to lead and from then on in non-capitals it's either your king or your position-held couriers until they run out and then it goes to courtiers based on military ability.

The position-held courtiers as priority of army leadership is extremely important to remember as your demense gets larger, or you'll end up with your 2 Military Chancellor leading a big army.

The results of that are -not- pretty.

dola,

You can click on each of your armies to see who's leading it. The leader's picture will there on the left-hand side, at least in vanilla CK. Not sure about DV.

Such a great game. I took Dublin and united all of Ireland and have an alliance with Scotland. I'm trying to figure out a way to goto war with England.

If one of my vassals has a claim on English lands how do I exploit that to my needs?

They would need to declare war on the titleholder that they have a claim to, which would give you the opportunity to invade.

Be forewarned though, warring with England, even with Scotland as your ally, is tantamount to suicide unless Willie or Robert or whoever is ruling now is having problems with rebellions.

Is the Duchy of Brittany still independent? If so, I'd consider going after them to strengthen your position.
