Cowboys Football Ticket Question
I have this friend at work see, and this friend really doesn't know anything about sports. Her first wedding anniversary is next month, and she wanted to surprise her husband with Cowboys tickets.
So apparently they're sold out from the franchise directly, so she hit up Stub Hub. She bought tickets in Section 29, row 20 for $400 a piece. Face on the tickets, according to the Cowboys website is $139. Did she get ripped off? She thinks she did and she's having serious buyers remorse. It does seem like a huge mark up, but it IS the last year at Texas Stadium, and it IS the Cowboys not the Cardinals...so I don't know. I have no idea what the secondary market is for Cowboys tickets...if they were for the Packers I would say probably not. What say you wise FOFC? |
She got ripped off!
Then again, I would think face value would be too much ;) |
Cowboys tickets are ALWAYS worth it, at ANY price. Duh...

Yeah, didn't see THIS response coming.... :D |

I think the doc's response may have been more predictable than mine, though. |
which game is it for?

The Buccs on October 26th. |
Actually, I recall hearing that Cowboys tix are MUCH more expensive than that when you factor in the "seat licensing fee" that they charge season ticket holders. It is in the tens of thousands of dollars, I believe. Though I think that is just a one-time fee for however many years you keep the season tix.

I think that doesn't go into effect until the new stadium is opened. |
Yup, Cap is (mostly) correct. There's a current seat licensing fee, but it's going to skyrocket with the opening of the new stadium next year...

I have never been to an NFL game in my life, mostly because I do not really enjoy any local teams. But the Boys are coming to Cleveland on week 1. Man oh man.
I don't really want to sit in the upper level, but outside of the dawgpound the ticks are quite expensive. I may just have to sit in the pound all decked out in Cowboy blue. |
dola -
That game will also be a week after my 21st. Could get nasty :) |
To be guaranteed a ticket, you're going to pay a premium. Could you get more if you wanted until the last minute and bought tickets from a broker or scalper that weekend? Maybe, but it's no guarantee.
Looking at several different brokers, that's the cheapest ticket in that section I've seen for that game. I've found some tickets in the same section further back north of $600. Personally, the price for a ticket in that location doesn't surprise. Could she have found cheaper tickets in the end zone or upper deck? Yes. But for that particular seat, it looks like a fair price to me -- maybe even a bargain compared to some. I mean, look at what Arizona is doing to keep the Cowboys fans out of Phoenix -- they are forcing people buying tickets for the Dallas game to buy exhibition game tickets too. That's essentially doubling the ticket price for the Cowboys-Cardinals for crying out loud! |

How else could Arizona fill those exhibition seats though? :) |

I paid $1600 for 2 tix to the one game I went to.

The Cowboys have been doing that for the Thanksgiving Day game for at least several years now... |
Dola-
Regarding scalpers, I've seen scalpers there (semi-jokingly) offer tickets in exchange for a hotdog before. If you wait until the last few minutes before kickoff, it's possible to get decent tickets cheap. |
I've been twice for free. I have this connection. The first time I didn't have do anything but the last time I had to push Randy Travis out on the star while he was hiding and he signed the back of my shirt for doing it. I think I got screwed because I washed the shirt.
