Name those called to serve
In light of SkyDog's stickied thread: To Remember Our Absent Friends, I'd like to use this thread as an opportunity for you to name those close to you who have been called to serve his/her country.
Please remember these individuals in your thoughts, your prayers, and your gratitude. |
Okay, I'll start.
A co-worker of mine has a son-in-law who was sent out a couple of weeks ago. [edited to remove disclosed location] A few members of our firm are sending him and his unit a care package once a week to show our support. His name: Brian [edited to remove surname] |
ABC,
From a security point of view it is not considered good to advertise the names of our service people. |

You are absolutely correct. I made the necessary edit. |
Two of my high school buddies are over there or soon will be.
Chris is an Air Force pilot, flying fighter jets. He's married with three kids. Scott is in the National Guard. He's been activated, but is not yet overseas. My wife works with a guy who's also over there. She and others have been putting together regular care packages for him. I've contributed my copies of Sports Illustrated so he'll have something to read (although I don't think he'll have much time to read anymore). |
I have 2 relatives(Brad and Mike) who are in Kuwait and 1 in North Carolina (Ben) that was supposed to be in Turkey (he's still up in the air as to whether or not he's going over at all). I also have a very close friend (Dave) who's a pilot on an aircraft carrier that's over there. My next door neighbor (Steve) works for the CIA and he's been gone for over 2 months. I suspect he's over there, but he's not allowed to tell where he's at right now.

This is a good candidate for the sticky feature for the duration of the war.

The husband of my wife's best friend from high school was sent over about 4 months ago for a 3 month tour of duty. He was informed last month that it would be at least another 3 months, and we're assuming it will be even longer than that.
Since he's essentially been a desk jockey here in the US, we don't think he is anywhere near the front lines, but his wife is scared to death because he has had literally no contact or training with guns or combat. She said they "train" for one hour every year on how to fire a gun, and that's it. |
My unit has been activated for mobilization but cant tell you anything else other than that .
|
All the best, ChemSold. Thanks for the sacrifice.
|
me and the SAS boys are going in tonight.

Let's not forget the other FOFC boys:
ardent enthusiast Senator Leonidas Have I missed anyone? |
A few of my buddies are already there and as of now 2:24 pm pst
if the news is correct are in their staging areas just 3 miles frm the Iraqi Border . And as food for thought my unit would be there now if it were not for our med records being misplaced . |
A man my wife works with, Barry, is a MedEvac helicopter pilot. He was called into action a month or so ago. The last I heard he was somewhere in the Rockies flying practice missions.
|
Not this week he ain't, too blizzardly.
|
I guy that I used to race against is stationed over in kuwait now I think. Another Guy I used to race is also in the marines, but im not sure where he was deployed. One of my best friend/schoolmate is stationed over in korea keeping those commies out.
|
A high school running pal of mine (also named Josh, coincidentally) is in the Marines, although I haven't heard from him since about 6 months after 9/11. He may or may not be in the Gulf by now.
