Ah... to be young and foolish again:

Police free 26 cheerleaders from elevator at University of Texas' Jester Hall

Police and firefighters were called to the University of Texas' Jester Hall to free 26 cheerleaders who had crammed themselves into an elevator.

A group of 14- to 17-year-olds attending Texas Cheer Camp in Austin decided to see how many girls they could squeeze into the elevator around 6 p.m. Tuesday, campus police said.

The elevator successfully descended from the fourth floor to the first, but the doors refused to open.

The panicked girls managed to wiggle a few cell phones free to call for help. But it took about 25 minutes before a repairman was able to fix the door, police said.

“It’s dangerous actually,” said Rhonda Weldon, director of communications for the UT Police Department. "They’re lucky that that’s all that happened."

One teen fainted and was treated and released from a nearby hospital. Two others were treated at the scene.

“Take the sign seriously,” Ms. Weldon said. “There are signs everywhere: No more than 15 people or 3,000 pounds.”

Their ages really limit the comments that could be made in this thread.

Even with 26 of them in the elevator, I'd be curious to hear if the broke the weight limit and by how much. It was probably close.

Right...they'd have to average about 115 lbs each to break the weight limit.

Great, now they are all going to have eating disorders.

I've lived in that dorm and I'm telling you, they're just lucky they didn't break the thing and plummet to their doom.

They could have fit a lot more in the elevator if they'd stacked themselves like cordwood.

maybe they had a lot of those girls who only get to be the base of the pyramid or wrestling cheerleaders.

I know the elevator I had in college was one of those with the pull down door and you had to hold down the button for it to go.

I would have liked to be on that elevator.

I wonder how many of those firefighters were using their phones to take pictures?

Thank god there wasn't a dissaster, it would be the kid with his head chopped off by a roller coaster argument all over again

Wrestling cheerleaders. They wouldnt have been able to fit 26 wrestling cheerleaders on it. :)
