2008 US Open Thread

James Blake v. Donald Young is on right now on USA Network.

Young is 19, ranked 73rd in the world and is the former #1 junior in the world and went pro at 15.

Blake won the first set 6-1, Young is up 4-2 in the second set. Interesting battle.

Mardy Fish is up 2 sets on James Blake, third set, 6-6 tiebreaker

Fish is not joking around tho. He wants this and is playing hungry.

This is apparently the furthest that Fish has ever advanced at the Open. So he's trying to make a real statement. I'd love to see this thing go further, but if Fish wants it, he needs to keep cranking those serves and get out of this now.

As a side note, I really like instant replay in tennis.

Fish did great work. He deserves the victory.

Is that all you wanted to contribute about the Open?

:p

Fish takes set 1 off Nadal, on USA now. Nadal breezing through set 2, but the crowd should be well behind Fish. (Winner plays Murray in one semi, while Roddick-Djokovic and Federer-Muller meet tomorrow to determine semi #2. Women's bracket is... oh hell, I can't care less. I think there's a Williams.)

Young Drachma 09-03-2008 11:54 PM

Serena beat Venus 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (9-7) to advance to the semis. Hell of a match, though I haven't seen it all yet.
