Looking for a private investigator movie...

Looking for a movie that could represent Sue Grafton's A is for Alibi book. A movie does not exist but I'd like a movie that demonstrates the job of private investigating and things of that sort. The one my school shows now is really old and sort of lame.

Never read the book, but Chinatown maybe?

Depending on how open minded you are (as they're cartoons) - the Manga "Case Closed" books are like a teenage scooby doo where you can figure out who did it properly in most cases (and it does show them working through clues etc.).

There's a series and a movie of the game - but I haven't watched them yet (its a shared obsession with my daughter so I have to sync with her for watching them).

It's a surprisingly thin field best I can tell.

Maybe some of the Nero Wolfe episodes from A&E?

I mean, most of the ones that have been translated to film/tv seem to be either super brains, savants, or film noir.

How on Earth did you manage to find a Magnum PI YouTube opening clip for a French viewing audience? :)
