Always Sunny Season 5 Discussion -- Cast to perform 6 shows of Nightman Cometh!

Two new episodes tomorrow night. Funniest show on TV, bar none. I am so stoked for this.

And with that in mind, I present you with:

Flasch186 09-17-2008 06:23 PM

Absolutely stoked!! Such a great show!! Cant wait!

DeToxRox 09-18-2008 11:33 AM

Cannibalism and the Gas Crisis on the docket tonight!

Logan 09-18-2008 12:07 PM

I mean honestly, I'm shaking.

DanGarion 09-18-2008 12:18 PM

I sort of lost interest in this show halfway through season three. It just was getting to be a bit too stupid. I'm contemplating recording tonights episodes.

We may as well get married because between the Wire, Shield and this, I don't know if someone more perfect exists.

Logan 09-18-2008 12:20 PM

One of my favorite scenes, unfortunately I can only find at as part of an old promo. Better in the full scene:

Then of course there's Charlie's (improv) America's song:

The underage drinking episode mixed to J-Kwon's "Tipsy":

Fine by me. But we'll be divorced after Ok State rolls Colorado.

DeToxRox 09-18-2008 12:23 PM

The underage drinking episode was gold. I love Mac crashing prom because everyone else was invited.

But yes, the Gang Gives Back is one of my three favorites, along with the Gang Gets Invincible and Sweet Dee's dating a Retarded Person

Pyser 09-18-2008 12:42 PM

fuck. yes.

PackerFanatic 09-18-2008 12:46 PM

So excited...

Flasch186 09-18-2008 12:52 PM

Day man is an insidious song that I cannot get out of my head.

mckerney 09-18-2008 12:55 PM

You know what, I'm just gonna pop this shirt off.

Karlifornia 09-18-2008 08:14 PM

Flasch186 09-18-2008 09:33 PM

John Rambo!! ROFLMAO

DeToxRox 09-18-2008 09:59 PM

WILDCARD BITCHES

Flasch186 09-18-2008 10:01 PM

Too great! Wildcard.

bionicgrov 09-18-2008 10:01 PM

OH MY GOD!!!!! THE GHOSTBUSTERS THEME WAS HILARIOUS!!!!!

Flasch186 09-18-2008 10:03 PM

it was, it really was.

Pyser 09-19-2008 02:07 AM

uhhh...i thought those were terrible episodes. the 2nd one especially. cannibalism had me laughing here and there, though.

mckerney 09-19-2008 03:36 AM

I know man, I'm so excited. Feel my nips!

Logan 09-19-2008 09:14 AM

Just stopping in to say that I missed it last night as happy hour ran a little late, and I wanted to be sober to appreciate the return so I'll catch it on DVR as soon as I get home from work.

It's killing me that I don't know what you guys are saying about it.

DanGarion 09-19-2008 11:57 AM

The first episode sucked ass. The second one was ok.

Honestly I think they need to take Danny Devito off the show, that's when I started losing interest in the show. It used to be a show about stupid people who would do some stupid things, now it's a show about idiots being complete morons.

Flasch186 09-19-2008 12:03 PM

Oh, I disagree completely and think that Devito serves as the rudder and is terrific in his role.

Jas_lov 09-19-2008 12:23 PM

If anything, Devito deserves more screen time! He's the best character! Last night's episodes were hilarious as usual. Wild card, the tinted windows from the inside, these guys are comedic geniuses.

Anthony 09-19-2008 12:43 PM

i'm catching up on the series, have about 4 more episodes to go in season 3 before i watch season 4 in realtime. not crazy about DeVito.

Flasch186 09-19-2008 12:50 PM

Well you have to remember, Devito's the muscle.

*high five*

Glad I'm not the only one.

Anthony 09-19-2008 03:34 PM

DeVito's character is the most consistent, in the sense that a clown popping out of jack in the box is consistent. you get a giggle the 1st time (or maybe the 2nd time if you're of a simple mind and silly things humor you), but after a bit you get tired of it cuz its the same thing every time.

Danny Devito's character is the guy who will jump in the middle of a stupid idea and want to be involved in it. he's the "hey, me too!" part of the gang. instead of being like "what a retarded idea, count me out", he's the type who, as the gang decides they want to do something stupid will show up at the last second, ask what's going on and be filled in on the plan and say "hey...cool, let's do it". then midway through there'll be an arguement in the group, he'll split off and do it with [insert Mac/Dennis/Charlie/Sweet Dee here] and take things over the top. but its the same thing over and over.

the show is entertaining, but not laugh out loud funny. i like the characters (except for DeVito's character) so i keep watching. the characters seem to have devolved into complete idiots, instead of just being the slacker losers they were before in season 1. decent show, wouldn't put it in my top 30 shows of all time or anything.

You hit the nail on the head HA. Especially that last part. The show has just about become a parody of itself and clearly jumped the shark when Danny DeVito jumped from "special guest" to a title credit.

Pyser 09-19-2008 04:25 PM

well, it was obviously a network decision to add devito in season 2 (as evidenced by the fact that they had something like 10 days to shoot every scene he'd be in all season, then way later would go back and shoot the other side of the scene)

but also, he serves as the "bank" of the group. he has money, which plotwise, allows the gang to do their crazy shit....raiding dee's sock drawer not included.

Anthony 09-19-2008 04:40 PM

which doesn't make sense, cuz his wife left all the money to Dennis and Dee's real life dad (the 7th Heaven dude). hence the reason Dee and DeVito had to pretend to be engaged and wanted the money to adopt kids with. wacky comedy ensued.

but he doesn't really fund all their hijinks. the only time i can think of was for the Day Man episode, where he bought the instruments (and Mac used his credit card to rent the room to wreck). otherwise, he takes the group's ideas and tries to find a way to profit from them.

Charlie is my favorite of the bunch, for the record.

Pyser 09-19-2008 04:58 PM

thats not true at all. frank paid for the cop outfits, to fix the bar, has the drug/shady people hook-ups, etc.

he has had his own money forever, they set up that he was a businessman involved in vietnam or something. he's been divorced a long time in the show, as best i can recall

DeToxRox 10-03-2008 11:55 AM

Last night was one of the best episodes EVEERRR!

I laughed so hard at:

Sex buffet
Glory hole
The car crash
The bus scene
The Duster
The Memorial Slide Show

I could go on and on but that was A+

DeToxRox 11-21-2008 01:45 PM

Amazing fucking finale. Holy shit that was awesome.

The troll toll for the boys hole. lmfao.

Flasch186 11-21-2008 01:47 PM

yup, me and the wife both said it was the funniest episode of a way too short season.

Flasch186 11-21-2008 01:47 PM

DOLA -

I came up with another song and Im just going to throw it in there.

-no, no you wont, or I will slap your face off of your face.

yup, yup, it's going in.

Pyser 11-21-2008 03:39 PM

anyone else think that overall this season was a MAJOR disappointment?

Flasch186 11-21-2008 03:46 PM

not major but I wished it had been longer and there were a few episodes that got a little disjointed for me.

I thought season 3 was a step down(but still good) from 1 and 2, and 4's a step up again. Slightly different feel to it, I think they may have more writers now.

Oh, come on...it's soul...boys soul! ;)

Awesome, awesome episode. The season did feel short, probably a result of doubling up on the episodes the first couple of weeks. Still, I'd say it was a solid season. A few clunkers, sure, but also some really funny episodes and a great finale. Can't wait till next season...any chance it'll start before next September? I don't know if I can wait that long.

I wouldn't say major. But it definitely was the worst season I thought. The Liberty Bell episode was by far the worst single episode they have ever done.

PackerFanatic 11-22-2008 02:50 PM

Such a great episode.

Julio Riddols 11-22-2008 04:51 PM

I thought the liberty bell episode was classic. I also thought this season stayed on par with the previous 3, but needed a bit more McPoil.

But that finale? Gold.

PineTar 11-22-2008 06:18 PM

season 4 seemed a little self indulgent to me... a period piece and a musical amongst the 12 or so episodes - definitely not the quality of show that hooked me back in season 1 and 2.

Toddzilla 11-22-2008 08:12 PM

Wildcard, bitches!

Logan 11-23-2008 09:39 PM

Loved the finale.

I thought season 3 was a step down and this year was even worse. Still some funny moments along the way, though.

Anthony basically nailed it with the "devolved into complete idiots" comment.

The first scene they ever wrote for the show was when Dennis goes up to Charlie's apartment to get a basketball and Charlie tells him he has cancer. Charlie starts crying and Dennis has to use a little finesse - he doesn't want to make a big scene or seem like a total jerk, but he really just wants to get the basketball and get out of there ASAP. The humor was in what a selfish asshole Dennis was, and that was basically the premise of the show. Think about how much more subtle that is than the Extreme Home Makeover episode where no one is behaving like a sane adult, for example. It's basically a different show.

Flasch186 11-26-2008 04:21 PM

good point, the makeover show was one of the worst of all IMHO although Devito was great in it.
