File is up.

Chief Rum 10-06-2008 01:31 AM

Working both jobs tomorrow. So don't be butt hurt if you don't hear back from me right away, you wankers.

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 08:53 PM

Should be a fun night. We'll see who gets released into the free agency fray. Yee haw.

kaosfere 10-06-2008 09:03 PM

Deadline trades ftw!

*hide*

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:04 PM

haha..I won't process trades until the end of the file, to make sure that people who need to sign deals, do so.

magic_number 10-06-2008 09:05 PM

x-up

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:06 PM

Also remember, my internet here is snail slow for data transfer. So you might wanna go have a house party in the time it takes to upload the file.

kaosfere 10-06-2008 09:08 PM

Oh ya! You were moving! In the new place OK, then?

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:12 PM

Yeah, I'm actually just in a temporary place for a few weeks until my "real" place is done. Hence the slowsie internets. It's one of those extended stay hotel deals. Everything is great about it (free laundry) EXCEPT the slow internet. But that's okay...I can take care of that if necessary.

kaosfere 10-06-2008 09:14 PM

Hah. Good good.

I was going to ask if you could do a picture update for this season, some of what we have is getting a little old, and doesn't seem to be being updated for whatever reason. But if you're on a slow link, it can probably wait. ;)

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:16 PM

ok, processing file time.

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:26 PM

Just so you can sleep tonight, I'll assure you that I didn't export so you didn't miss one from me. I took care of all that business in the Classic sim. ;)

Thanks for the heads up. I just post who misses, so no one who actually exported has to wonder if I got their file or not. :)

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:45 PM

File is uploading. Nap time.

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 09:55 PM

I've decided I'm going to nickname Anthony Payton and Joey Higman the duo of Bangers and Mash.

kaosfere 10-06-2008 10:02 PM

Ok.

I want to rename Elliott Richard "Spotted Dick"

FLOP might sim tomorrow morning. I was up too late last night and I'm starting to crash.

File is up.

Chief Rum 10-06-2008 11:51 PM

Hope you're still around, DC, because I am getting an error trying to download the file.

Young Drachma 10-06-2008 11:53 PM

Try it again? It should be okay...

I have tried it several times. :(

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:07 AM

I'm running the same .zip file up again via FTP. My data transfer rate here is very slow, so it won't be up probably for an hour. But...you can try that file in the morning or something (or wait for it) and see if that works. I dunno what the story is, tho. If it fails for everyone, then I'll bring my laptop to work and do it from there in the AM.

Yeah, I got an immediate error this time (rather than it taking some time). I am guessing that's because it is uploading a new file?

Tell me this. Did Adams sign his extension? Just knowing that would help a lot.

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:15 AM

Yes, Adams signed his extension. 3 years/$9 million total

And yes, I'm uploading a new file right now. It'll take a while, sadly.

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:15 AM

fairly had to give up New Orleans due to real life issues. MrBug708 will be taking over the team starting tomorrow night.

ekcut 10-07-2008 12:16 AM

It works for me...have you patched by chance? I'm on 9.1.6 still and it works ..I know another league I am in has switched to 9.2.0 and I get errors each time I update (but I refuse to update cause 9.2.0 already has bugs so bad they are rushing out a 9.2.1 patch tommorow)

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:17 AM

Yeah, I didn't patch yet. I've been using 9.1.6, because I knew there were problems and didn't want to stop the league because of testing issues..

muns 10-07-2008 12:20 AM

The file worked for me when I downloaded also

Chief Rum 10-07-2008 12:23 AM

I have not patched at all with the latest patch (or any fix), since we saw there were issues with the new patch. I am waiting as planned for a steady build before downloading that. So I don't have a clue why mine won't download.

Would it be possible to have the file at a link I could click and download to my computer, and do it the "hard" way? That might be the only way for me to be sure it works.

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:24 AM

You can download the tar.gz file from here

Chief Rum 10-07-2008 12:27 AM

Cool, thanks.

Chief Rum 10-07-2008 07:49 AM

Can someone tell me why Jose Gonzales has an $8.5 M contract for this season? He had a team option for $17 M, which I (of course) voided. He should be on the player min $190K.

Is this a glitch that needs to be corrected? I certainly hope so, considering it is having a considerable effect on my ability to make offers in free agency.

Chief Rum 10-07-2008 07:51 AM

Same thing for Mike McIntosh, $1.7 M. Should also be the player min.

Are those the arbitration values for those players? Have they had enough service time to be in arbitration years? If so, they shouldn't be at 190k and should be at their arbitration values.

I don't have the game in front of me so can't really help more than that right now.

Nope, McIntosh is entering his third year, and Gonzalez his 2nd.

But are they some of those "messed up" players that had odd service year entries because of some draft manipulation a few years back? I know we had a few years of draft picks ending up as minor league free agents the following year when they shouldn't be. On the salary report screen, does it show them as arbitration eligible even though it is only their 2nd/3rd seasons?

Why would someone have a 17.5 million option on a third year player? They shouldn't even be in arbitration yet.

If you voided a team option, he ought to be a free agent. I don't know how he'd go from a voided team option to a min sal contract. And their service time counts from the time they're drafted, not from the time they reach the majors. It's pro service time that turns on the clock to when they become FAs. If they've signed major league deals from the outset, the arbitration years don't matter, they just keep rolling over their initial rookie contract. muns ran into this back in the day when he'd offer rookies $10m for one year to sign, expecting their deals to revert to min sal deals, only to find out that they don't automatically do that.

I don't think either of those guys are rookies in the sense of pro service years. All it takes is 5 pro service years to become a minor league free agent if your contract doesn't free you up sooner. So I dunno if these are errors, they're certainly not draft issue errors, as those problems should be done, since it's been years since any "young, but with some experience" players were entered into the draft pool and those were the culprits of the service time issues (the game's fault..)

I'll have to get the HTML updated tonight, too.

I dont have the game in front of me, but i might be able to shed some light on the subject, as I think Mcintosh is one of my "specials" that DC eluded too and is correct on. Ill take a look later and comment though.

If you wanted the contract to go back to min salary, you needed to do a 1 year deal, and then he couldnt be on the MLB team that season. He would need to be at AAA and the following year he would automatically switch to a minor league deal.

Thats just speculation though as I dont have the game in front of me.

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 09:48 AM

Hell ya!
I'm sorry, but having an "option" to pay a player $17mil or the league min (or whatever contract) sounds like exploiting a loophole. I can't imagine a reason why a player would agree to a contract like that!
There is no rule against offering these types of contracts, but I think this is something we should look into prohibiting.
Or is there a reason for a contract like this, and I am just missing the reasoning?

Umm...the team option/player option thing is endemic to the game. But game logic is, if you don't offer the guy the option, he should become a free agent during FA time. I guess the way around that, might be to decline the option and then offer him a new deal before the free agency period starts. But I dunno, because I've never done it before. I've only either taken the option or let the player go.

So I don't think it's anything in this case to outlaw, because I'm pretty certain it doesn't work this way, that it's a misunderstanding of the way the contracts were supposed to work vis a vis service time.

ekcut 10-07-2008 12:14 PM

I guess what concerns me is not how the option works (OOTP dropped the ball again), but how he got it.

I do not know how these particular players were aquired, but to be able to offer a player a 1 year contract for a reasonable amount and then an outrageous amount for the option year (which no-one in there right mind would pick up if the player would still be arbitration eligable) seems like a loophole to me. Frontend loaded, backend loaded, bonuses, option years, all are ways to tip toe around OOTP's limited brain, I just think the option year issue crosses the line from limited brain to glitch.

To be honest, I really don't care, as long as EVERYONE is aware and has the abilty to do it, then so be it...we have to work with what the game gives us. I guess it's just because I feel the need to justify the key to the executive BoD washroom and this brand new BoD jacket that arrived in the mail this morning that I am asking questions.

Young Drachma 10-07-2008 12:18 PM

Valid points. I think in the wake of the Payton deal, we can start to restrict these deals, but with the new financial rules, I think they'll be effectively impossible without cripplingly a team forever. We could just rule them out, it's just the policing that can get sticky/complicated.

Speaking of, I need to post those financial numbers...

Chief in looking at the game I do know whats going on with Mcintosh. You signed him to a 1 year 1,658,400. So what happens when he doesnt have any MLB experience is (when you stick him directly on your MLB roster) his contract rolls over at that salary until he hits his arb years. If you put him in AAA that 1 year deal is just like a bonus. He would have got paid that 1.65 deal that season, and the following year it turns into a minor league deal and if you bring him up to the MLB team he would make 190k.

Im also going to assume this is the case for Gonzalez. He has only been on a MLB team once and it was this year. The history is messed up for him so I cant tell for sure as id really like to see when you signed him and what value it was for, but it seems to follow the same principal as Mcintosh and all the other guys I have done this with. I know this happened with Mcintosh as I bid on him a few years ago and he ended up with you.

Also, If you signed him for a 1 year deal for 8 point whatever mil, and then had an option of 17 mil and you voided, I can easily see how OOTP would just roll back over the 8 point whatever mil as that was his salary.

Just in case and to head off any potential problems, I posted this back on the main board a while ago so it was public knowledge...
