Advice on DVD Drives

So, my son's computer doesn't have a DVD drive in it. The games he wants to play these days require one, so I am thinking about getting him a DVD Drive for his PC. I have no idea what I'm looking for as far as brand.

I know some of you guys are deep into this sort of shit. Any advice?

Newegg. Whatever has the best reviews/price.

You can get a DVD burner for about $20 now (will play DVD and CD-Roms). I agree with Rich1033 above, just check newegg and see which ones are rated 4-5 eggs.

Yup, these things are a commodity now.

Pick one. Heck, spend a few bucks extra and let him do some burning:

Biggest thing is to check if you have an EIDE/PATA port or a SATA port. Probably EIDE if the thing is at all old. Just make sure it matches the drive you buy. That's about all you need to worry about.

Do u need a DVD burner? I love Plextor so the 850A or 850SA depending on whether the computer has an IDE or SATA controller. If u want to go cheaper, Lite-Ons have performormed well for me in the past.
