College Football Week 12 Thread

There's an entertaining game in progress on ESPN2 between #22 Cincinnati and Louisville. Louisville is up 17-14 at halftime.

Cincinnati's coach, Brian Kelly, made a bone headed decision in the 1st quarter to go for it on 4th and 1 from his own 29, missed it, and Louisville tied it up on an 11 play, 28 yard drive to give them the momentum.

Honolulu_Blue 11-14-2008 08:50 PM

This might be the best game of the week. The rest of the games all look to be pretty poor/boring.

Vegas Vic 11-14-2008 10:08 PM

It's good to see quarterback Dustin Grutza back on the field for Cincinnati after breaking his leg earlier this year. He came in and led an impressive drive to put the Bearcats up 28-20 with six minutes left in the game.

Cincinnati has been a gritty team this year. Due to injuries, they've had to play four different quarterbacks.

Lathum 11-14-2008 10:11 PM

Of course the year I leave UC will make a BCS bowl

Vegas Vic 11-14-2008 10:25 PM

Cincinnati's kicker just missed his fourth consecutive field goal to keep Louisville in the game. UC 28-20 with two minutes left.

timmynausea 11-14-2008 10:34 PM

That review and change of the spot that took away the Louisville 3rd down conversion late in the game was one of the worst I've seen this year. It looked to me like it was a pretty good spot considering forward progress. I was really surprised they changed it.

Vegas Vic 11-15-2008 02:09 AM

Oklahoma has a bye this week, so I'll be rooting for the Kansas Jayhawks against Texas.

Poli 11-15-2008 06:38 AM

Tennessee WILL NOT lose this week.

Vegas Vic 11-15-2008 01:07 PM

Texas is in a fairly tight game with Kansas, with the Longhorns up 14-0 at halftime. However, Kansas doesn't look they have the offensive firepower to do anything against this Longhorn defense.

General Mike 11-15-2008 01:13 PM

Rutgers is looking pretty good so far today.

GrantDawg 11-15-2008 01:17 PM

UGA and Auburn is trying to really out ugly each other. Georgia has been the ugliest, but they have a one point lead after the half, 7-6.

Vegas Vic 11-15-2008 01:33 PM

Game over at Kansas. Texas goes up 21-0 early in the 3rd, and it might as well be 21,000 to 0 the way Kansas' offense is playing.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 01:49 PM

Georgia adds a FG, extends their lead over Auburn to 10-6 as the 3rd quarter draws to a close.

Are you watch this game? Excuse my French, but pretty shitty for a UGA-Auburn game, eh?

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:00 PM

I dunno GD, I think it just got a lot better :D

Cody Fannin with a great 35 yd run on 3rd & short, TD Auburn. Tigers lead 13-10 with 11:05 left in regulation.

You would. :banghead:

Of course, they both still look better than Tennessee.

So much for the supposed power of the Big 12 North, eh?

So did at least half the teams playing in both Georgia & Tennesse on Friday night

MJ4H 11-15-2008 02:03 PM

That was an awesome run by Fannin to give Auburn the lead.

Sun Tzu 11-15-2008 02:03 PM

This QB for Michigan is absolutely awful. How does a guy like this wind up starting for such a high profile Division I team?

RedKingGold 11-15-2008 02:04 PM

PSU's performance today kind of satisfies me that they're not going to the National Championship game. No way that Indiana team hangs around with any other Top 10 team in the country. Heck, even Ohio State would've had em' by 30 by the half.

Hopefully, the Lions will beat Michigan State at home next week to win another Big Ten title (2nd in 4 years). That was pretty much the main realistic goal this season, anyway.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:06 PM

Georgia gets the benefit of a highly questionable pass inteference call, Tuberville explodes & gets a 5 yard sideline warning delay of game.

edit to add: Notable because I don't know if I've ever seen that called that way. When the flag came down I was expecting an unsportsmanlike.

GrantDawg 11-15-2008 02:11 PM

Which would have been against Georgia, since I think Unsportsmanlike is now what the U stands for in UGA.

UGA scores, and about freakin time.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:11 PM

Stafford 17 yds to a leaping AJ Green, TD Georgia back in front 17-13 with 8:24 left to play.

Vegas Vic 11-15-2008 02:27 PM

Heh. Navy just scored a TD to cut Notre Dame's lead to 27-21, then recovered on onside kick with less than 2 minutes left in the game (CBS).

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:32 PM

Georgia can't convert 3rd & 7 as Moreno stumbles down about a yard short after catching a screen. Tigers take their last timeout so they'll punt ... OMG, Auburn just jumped offside ... OMG OMG no they called procedure on Georgia, so they will punt after all, fair caught at the Auburn 20.

General Mike 11-15-2008 02:37 PM

Rutgers rolls over USF 49-16 to improve to 5-5.

Vegas Vic 11-15-2008 02:38 PM

OK, I just switched over the the Georgia/Auburn game, which is being carried by -- Raycom Sports?

Before the season, if someone had told you that the Georgia/Auburn game would be televised by Raycom Sports, you would have laughed your ass off.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:41 PM

Auburn down to the UGA 14 with 0:13 left, 3rd & 1.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 02:42 PM

How the hell no pass inteference was called on that fade I have no idea.
4th & 1, :07 left.

Under pressure Kodi Burns lobs one up ... incomplete off the fingertips of Ben Tate in the corner of the end zone, UGA takes over with :01 left.

He would be at best, 3rd string under normal circumstances. If Rodriguez had any other options he would, but he simply does not have the players to run his system.

Give it a few years and Michigan will be a good team.

Can't believe Charlie kicked the FG with ~10 minutes left when up by 17. It's a 3-possession/2-TD game either way... 4th and 3 you have to go for it there.

Charlie's game management was shockingly inept in the last 10 minutes today. Gah.

And he has a pretty good arm... he was a 4-star recruit.

Gotta say I'm pretty impressed with where this team is at now. To get back to .500 from being 1-5, and with a legitimate shot to continue running the table is a nice feat. Amazingly, we still have a shot at winning the Big East.

miked 11-15-2008 02:50 PM

Kenny Britt has a shot at being a first day pick this offseason. Big East win is a long shot, but 2nd place has a decent tie-in. As long as we're not playing in the Texas Bowl, International Bowl. or MPC Computers Bowl.

Actually, that went back to being called the Humanitarian Bowl last year.

If we finish 7-5, we're going to be stuck in the PapaJohns.com crap bowl, unless Syracuse can find a way to beat Navy next week.

Here are my current Big East bowl projections:

BCS - Cincinnati
Gator - ND
Meineke - WVU
International - Pitt
PapaJohns.com - Rutgers
St. Petersburg - UConn

Best case for Rutgers is that UConn, USF and Rutgers all have 7 wins, and Rutgers finds its way into one of the bowls the other BCS conferences don't fill. Going to the Texas bowl sure seems a lot better at this point then going to Birmingham.

There's a bowl game in Russia?

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 03:07 PM

Smelley throws a pick six & Florida takes 7-0 lead over South Carolina late in the first quarter.
edit to add: Tipped at the line, another interception by Florida (no long return this time though).

I wish. Still better then Birmingham tho.

JonInMiddleGA 11-15-2008 03:18 PM

Wow, talk about a melt down ... Florida went up 14-0 after the second turnover, they kickoff & SC tried one of those toss back/throw across things on the return.

Naturally the toss was bad & was fumbled, Florida recovers for another TD.

edit to add: After further review, the runner was down at the one foot line.

Karlifornia 11-15-2008 03:23 PM

How long ago was it decided that Spurrier is not an offensive genius?

Honestly? Once he didn't have the recruiting power of UF anymore. He just has no shot of getting anything resembling the same talent at USC-Dicks...um I mean Cocks.

I just think he's lazy. His offense was pretty good at Duke, and Duke isn't even close to Florida.

True, but then the ACC wasn't very good when he was at Duke, either.

Birmingham would be awesome, it's about a 1.5-2 hour drive from me. Get a car full and go!

Radii 11-15-2008 04:25 PM

UNC leads Maryland 15-14 at the half in a game that is critical for both team's chances to win their respective divisions in the ACC. UNC wins the ACC Coastal Division if they win out, and after this their last two games are vs NC State and at Duke, the two worst teams in the conference.

Of the 3 teams that realistically have a shot at the ACC Atlantic Division(Maryland, Wake Forest, and FSU) if I'm reading the schedules correctly Maryland is the one that is in control of their own destiny. If FSU wins out they need Wake to lose, if Wake wins out they need Maryland to lose.

What a huge mess.

larrymcg421 11-15-2008 04:30 PM

I hate rooting against Butch Davis, but as a Canes fan, I really want UNC to lose here.

Miami is getting better and better. I think we'll be extremely dangerous next year. I still think Jacory Harris is better than Robert Marve and wish he'd get more playing time.

And if 2-3 Boston College beats all three of em, they take the Division. No shit.

Only if Rutgers had started the year playing like this. I mean really... what the Hell took so long? They could have won the Big East if this is how the season started off.
