need some medical info

Hey, I just got back from having an EMG and was told I have moderate to severe carpal tunnel..Basically surgery time. For some stupid reason I am dreading this a lot more than my bypass I had in September. Do I have anything to really worry about?

Mustang 12-09-2008 01:02 PM

I'd assume tk would be the resident specialist on surgeries on that part of the body.

If you have a good surgeon, you have nothing to worry about.

My admin had carpal tunnel surgery done arthroscopically on a Friday. She was back at work the following Wednesday. As I understand it, if they can do it all arthroscopically, it's pretty simple and not overly painful. They usually do it with a nerve block, so there's not even as much danger as with general anesthesia.

That said, I had arthroscopic hand surgery (NOT carpal tunnel) on Friday, and my hand's still sore, not allowed to use it until I see the doc on the 15th. Bleh.

... why would tk be the specialist on wrist surgeries? Is there something dirty I don't know about, or am I horribly misunderstanding.

I think we can safely assume that tk's had surgery on most parts of her body by now. :D

Sorry, I'm not the official scribe of all of tk's surgeries so, didn't know if they were all hand related or hand/wrist or what.

I wasn't being sarcastic or joking, just know that she has had a load of surgeries in that area.

TK - do you have an official scribe for all your surgeries? Is that a position that you're hiring for?? I mean it's probably a full-time job, right?

I realize that "a good surgeon" is a bit vague. Make sure it's going to be done by a hand surgeon, not a general orthopod. Ask how many he/she does each year, and their success rate. Living where you do, I imagine there are quite a few hand specialists.

I've never had it, but given how common a surgery it's become, it's a fairly straight-forward procedure and recovery, even more so than it was just a few years ago. Good luck!

LOL. i should get a scribe to type out FOFC posts while I recover, this takes a loooong time one-handed. ;)

My wife had both of her hands done. The only issue she walked away with is lack of feeling in her right ring finger.

How many surgeries have you had tk?
