Fans of "V" (the 80s tv mini-series)

To further boost Hollywoods official "We are completely out of new ideas" status, it looks like ABC has given the green light for a remake of V.

Pilot Season: 'V' and 'Lost in the '80s' a go | PopWatch Blog | EW.com

Oh how I weep for Hollywood...

hukarez 01-27-2009 11:44 AM

JediKooter 01-27-2009 12:00 PM

And the dude who played Freddy Krueger.

flere-imsaho 01-27-2009 12:08 PM

Oh no....

Ryan W. 01-27-2009 12:22 PM

ugh

Loved the original, don't think I could take a remake...

Mustang 01-27-2009 12:45 PM

Fans of V (the mini-series).

You could have just put V in the subject and I would have assumed

1. Mini-series
2. Discussion of the number 5

Just curious if there was something else...

Honolulu_Blue 01-27-2009 12:55 PM

There was "V" the series, which followed the original "V" mini-series and "V: The Final Battle" mini-series.

rowech 01-27-2009 01:12 PM

Too bad NBC gave up on the other show when it was called "Freaks and Geeks"

sabotai 01-27-2009 01:27 PM

I'd like to see what a modern take on the series would look like. I'll watch it.

Maple Leafs 01-27-2009 01:33 PM

I was too young to watch the whole thing, but the one scene where somebody ate a hamster scarred me for about four years.

V for Vendetta?

Thomkal 01-27-2009 02:18 PM

Well I think they are kind of crazy to bring it back, but it could work with a modern twist on things. I remember it (perhaps falsely) being pretty campy, so a more serious take could be good. I like that the writer of The 4400 is behind the project so that's a major plus for me.

Word.

I was traumatized for years by the fork-tongued baby.

Yeah, in retrospect, it turned out to be that way. Part of the problem was that V was actually supposed to be pretty dark and bleak, but the network wanted something more upbeat. I don't think the creators of V wanted to do the "final battle"--it was the product of a network-driven decision to leverage the popularity of the original mini-series and to provide a happy ending for the series.

In reality, I think the creators might have even wanted a scenario where the aliens actually won...

JediKooter 01-27-2009 05:03 PM

The original series had a huge Nazi like theme to it. I wonder if they are going to use that same plot device in the new one.

All I know is, the alien female commander better be hot like the orginal one. And by hot, I mean hot in a kind of bitchy/slutty way hotness.

SunDevil 01-28-2009 01:05 AM

Loved this show as a kid. Again I was one of the kids who were scarred for years with the eating the hamster and the forked-tongue baby scene.

Hmmm... I reckon you could do a lot worse for 55 year old. I think she's still got it.

SunDevil 01-28-2009 09:03 AM

It's a dark picture for a reason I think.... :D

Dude, she looks like Lana from Three's Company, and that's scary on its best day.

Hey, wasn't she in My Science Project?

Yup, just checked IMDB

The two miniseries were a fun watch. Michael Ironside really made the second one. The spin-off series was awful.

The Dianna (now called "Anna") is hotter yet still!

Morena Baccarin to Star in ABC's V

Morena Baccarin (Serenity, "Firefly") will play a lead in ABC's "V," says The Hollywood Reporter.

"V," from WBTV, is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about an invasion of aliens known as Visitors and the resistance against them.

Baccarin will play Anna, the leader of the Visitors who is remarkably knowledgeable about human culture and media manipulation.

I don't watch this show at all, but... Jane Badler is back!

Keck's Exclusives: Jane Badler to Revive Diana on V's Season Premiere - Today's News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Thank you Scott Rosenbaum for just making V a thousand times cooler. After the executive producer let slip at Comic-Con that he'd be introducing Anna's mother in V's November season premiere — and that her name would be Diana, fans went bonkers. I personally begged Rosenbaum to cast Jane Badler (so deliciously evil as lizard villainess Diana in NBC's original '80s V series) as this new incarnation of Diana, and word has just reached me that he has indeed awarded Jane the role. Woo-hoo!

When V returns, we will learn that Anna (Morena Baccarin) is keeping her mother prisoner on the mother ship in a never-before-seen section that has been designed to look like the Visitors' home planet. Both Morena and Laura Vandervoort, who plays Anna's daughter, Lisa, told me they, too, were hoping Jane would take the role. Still stunningly beautiful at age 56, Jane's Diana, who will be a recurring character, is perhaps the only reptilian being who will be able to put Anna in her place. November suddenly can't come soon enough.
