Earth Hour

Guess none of us is participating.

JonInMiddleGA 03-28-2009 08:38 PM

Scheduling this during the NCAA tournament probably wasn't the most conducive thing for male participation I can think of.

MJ4H 03-28-2009 08:38 PM

My wife just paused her Animal Crossing game and looked over at me to tell me we were supposed to turn the lights out. I said "what?" She proceeded to tell me about it. I had heard absolutely nothing about it.

So, uh, yeah.

No.

Lathum 03-28-2009 08:40 PM

In the old days, Hallmark created holidays. Now? Twitter does it.

DanGarion 03-28-2009 08:52 PM

Earth Hour is a fucking joke. If they wanted to bring real awareness I wouldn't have first heard it was today, yesterday. Also if they really wanted to bring it to our attention they would just cut our fucking power. I'm wasting away electricity, and you wanna know why? Because I'm paying for it. If you want people to use less power charge more for it. It's just like telling people to conserve water, if it's such a big deal they would charge up the ass if you were wasting too much.

Everyone wants the home owner to conserve this and save that, but heaven forbid they expect a business to do much of anything. I know plenty of businesses that keep hundreds of computers on all night every night, just sitting there doing nothing, talk about a fucking waste.

Clearly you do not associate with enough unwashed hand-wringing bed-wetting hippies. I heard about this several weeks ago from the fine feathered whackadoos at syrnia.com

Cringer 03-28-2009 09:06 PM

We just did 30 minutes, in which a light was turned on 5 different times (about 30 seconds each time). Oh and the computers stayed on, alonf with the fridge and the microwave clock. We fail. I don't care, I didn't want to do it at all.

I live in a hippie hotbed, and today is the first I've heard of this.

JediKooter 03-28-2009 09:30 PM

And how is turning off the electricity for one hour going to help against the zombie hordes??

See...useless. Just leave the lights on. :)

Drake 03-28-2009 10:52 PM

Earth hour = social engineering fail.

JediKooter 03-28-2009 10:59 PM

Mustang, i see through your veiled attempt at muddying the waters. Nice red herring.

Everybody knows that there's no such thing as Elves.

All I know is that I love someone living in a mansion that flies on private jets telling me I need to conserve energy.

Can you hire a Dwarven Zombie to serve brains at my fantasy football draft?

He could wear a sombero and have the brains in the brim of it.

Karlifornia 03-29-2009 05:00 AM

The world is my ashtray, baby. I'm pushing this baby to it's limits.Sometimes I run the microwave for like 45 minutes just because I want to clear out the cobwebs.

Passacaglia 03-29-2009 06:54 AM

There were signs up in the break room of my office for at least a week before it. Anyway, no Earth Hour here. But I wondered at some point if everyone would notice that our lights were on, since I'd imagine my neighborhood is more likely to do it.

I no longer live in my hippie hotbed so I didn't hear of it until 2 days ago. In fact, Richmond is quite the opposite- people look at you like you're crazy when you suggest something like recycling.

Jon, where in Georgia is a hippie hotbed? ;)

SI

Lathum 03-29-2009 10:11 AM

I live in a major hippie hotbed and I have no idea what this is.

I'd say Athens probably counts.

As Cam pointed out, Athens definitely qualifies but in this case it was an online community I was referring to.
