Football Simulators
Hey Y'all;
I'm on the market for a new football simulator to use so please post'em with links as I already know of: Front Office Football http://www.solecismic.com/fof/index.php Sports Moguls - Football Mogul 2k9 Football Mogul 2009 UFL The UFL Home Page Action PC Football Action! PC Football Sad thing is I've used all the ones I've mentioned above and have found issues with'em all such as: Front Office Football - only allowed to run one league at all, you start another league and the same team names are in that league if you try to change the teams name then it'll affect the first league too Football Mogul - Too many bugs, if you have an uneven number of teams then certain teams won't play.. not to mention your only allowed to play a certain number of seasons Action PC Football - Too difficult to setup as you have to create players one by one manual style (no quick fix for this) UFL - Fun game as there is a "patch" sort of for automation of games but when it's setup you can't do anything as it runs on a macro. So I'm looking at the market for another football game to use, I heard about Maximum Football (Computer Football Game - Maximum-Football PC Program - Wintervalley Custom Software) but there is NO demo so I don't even know what the game is like without buying it, or if it's "Fantasy League" capable as I always run my leagues off fantasy teams and players. If you know any others post the names and links as I'm interested in checking them out ASAP. Thanks y'all in advance - Shane - |

You can get around this pretty easily with the use of batch files. Many people play in several multi-player leagues. There's even a video of how to do this. |
wheres the video or how can I do it cause I love FOF
|
Miked, can you provide a link to the video? I used to know how to do the batch file but it has been a long time. Thanks.
|
As miked mentioned, there is a workaround for having multiple independent leagues. Here is a thread with the screencast:
Batch File Screencast - Front Office Football Central In regards to Maximum Football, this thread should answer any questions you may have. Just set aside a few hours to go through it all: Maximum Football??? - Front Office Football Central |
Thanks Cartman.

oh sweet jeez...is this for real? MaxFB to the rescue!!!

The best non-career Football Sim on the market IMO. |
Is Action PC football like Fof, in that you can follow a career, or is it a strictly replay sim like SAT?
|

Action's strictly replay, but it's gotten better over the years. The early verisons (especially the retail version, Season Ticket Football) were very buggy. |
I had the batch file setup but then things quickly got messed up and what I mean by that is all the teams went back to my original league so now I'm just pissd & frustrated and not sure what to do but my football league is currently on hold as I guess I might as well try to find another sim to run it on cause FOF isn't working.

Is it just too much to fix this?? No sense making it such a headache for others to set up another league. |
I can't help but agree with BradS on this one as I'm sure many people also can't help but agree with him as if I'm not mistaken the coder for FOF is on this messageboard so why doesn't he just fix this small problem and put it out as a free update for anyone who already has the game to make all of our lives easier...
This is just getting insanely annoying and I'm close to removing FOF from my computer and looking else where for a game to use since this doesn't seem to be it. |
I'm trying to figure out what needs to be "fixed" here that's a simple fix for the developer. I am in five leagues, and run three of them. I have no problems moving between them. It's not a great setup, but it certainly works well enough for dozens and dozens of people who are in multiple leagues. Sounds like a pebcak scenario here. *shurg*
|
yeah...batch files aren't exactly elegant but once you set them up they're completely painless.
hell, i use a batch file on a mod for a more complicated game than FOF on almost an everyday basis |
Below is a list of realistic football simulators that are user friendly, have a rich UI, and have a deep franchise mode:

The winner of the thread! :D |
If only Total Pro Football was still around...
|
well there is a football sim that I know but it needs work who knows how amazing it can be as the owner of the code would like it re-coded. But nobody has been able to.
|
i can re-code ur football sim
|
heres the link:
http://bensforum.no-ip.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=316 the main link is here: The UFL Home Page It's not my football sim but a football sim that I know of that's been forever looking for someone to recode it, so sign up with the message board (first link I posted) and tell Ben (on that board) that you can recode it and post your email... if you want mention my name Shane and username 4Einc as I use the same username on his board too. |
oh crap, i only know linux.
nevermind. |
Wait...the owner of the code would like it re-coded? Am I missing something?
|
the game was coded for a friend of the original coder he then gave up on the code and gave his friend (whom he made the game for) the source and said if he can find someone to work on it then the game can be updated and fixed and whichever else.
So right now the kid is looking for someone to code the game as nobody has been able to figure it out as of yet |
Quote:
Alright, let me see if I have this straight. The coder of the game can't write code. So he's looking for someone to write a game for him, give it to him and then he gets to tell everyone he wrote a game? |
if you want to buy into it like that than go for it as the person who codes it would get credit for coding it but if you want to think that all the person is looking for is a "ghost coder" than I have nothing more to say.
|
4einc, your web site is awesome.

Shit man, just don't bring none of the death and destruction round here. I ain't done nothing to antagonize nobody! |
Maybe if I can run it through a VB -> C# translator first I can work on it...

Seems to be VB DOS, i.e. not even VB classic, but DOS BASIC... |

Awesome. Now all we need is flere to explain post #28 to me. |

I think it's a friend of the coder of the game, who also can't code, that's looking for someone to code the game -- which can be updated and fixed (though I'm not sure by whom) once it's coded. |

This is all in code, right? |

Well played :D Football is more popular than baseball. Is it just the nature of the sports that make it so there are more baseball sims than football sims, so that a good football sim would be more complicated to make or something? |
Quote:
You're the coder, why don't you tell us? |
Quote:
Or at least get a friend to tell us. |
Quote:
Yes. Baseball is pretty much a game played in series. Football is one of many sports played in parallel. So baseball should theoretically be by far the easiest of the popular sports to code. It should also be the easiest in which to analyze individual players because of its structure. The ridiculous amount of stats available in baseball and the entire sabermetrics movement is supporting evidence for this. |

I know, this thread feels made for me :D I'll ask a friend.. |

Gotcha. I've never programmed anything more complicated than a TI-83 program that helped me cheat in high school math but I figured coding stuff like offensive line play and the various formations and strategies used by different teams might be harder than baseball which is more of a matchup sport. Which is what I'm guessing you meant by "series" and "paralell." |
Think of it this way, Big Fo. If Joe Pitcher allows a base hit every .250 at bats, and John Hitter gets a base hit every .300 at bats, there is a 27.5% chance that John Hitter will get a hit when he's facing Joe Pitcher. And then you can also know Joe Pitcher and John Hitter's double, triple, home run, BB, K, ground ball, and fly ball pct. Add in some modifiers for defensive ability of where the ball is hit, and you have a pretty solid play resolution engine just based on readily available statistics. Map whatever ratings you choose to use with stats, and you're probably well on your way. You can't do that with football. Both sports require AI and tons of other stuff, but the core engine with baseball has to be tons easier.

So all the free support he was getting from fans of the game chased him off?
|
Here's a challenge...Why doesn't someone make a football game that works on PCs and Macs????????????????????????????
|
ftw?
