UFC Undisputed
Got a chance to play the demo today and this game looks and plays amazing. Only two fighters in the demo (Chuck and Shogun) but the presentation is just like a PPV, along with the commentary being very fluid and lifelike. The fighting is also very fluid, with it switching to short elbows and strikes when you move in and longer reaching strikes when you're further out automatically. I wasn't sure how well that system would work but having played it, it's pretty cool.
It seems like it's going to pay off to fight smart, and also know what you're doing (there seems to be a lot of stuff to do with the buttons if you know what you're doing), but it definitely allows you just to go out and slug if you want as well. If anyone is wanting to check out the demo early (it comes out on the 23rd), some Gamestops are giving out demo keys with a pre-order of the game. |
There are now options to get the demo a few days early for people who didn't preorder for Gamestop.
I've got a chance to play through the tutorial and a couple fights tonight, and I'm really surprised. I was looking forward to this but expectations were extremely low. I thought best case scenario they made a comparable game to Pride's on the PS2. Obviously tough to say with only two fighters and only playing for a few minutes but I'm very impressed. The presentation is very nice and the system is in depth. They might have even implemented a pretty good ground system which is what I thought would be the weakness. In fact from the little I've seen the ground game looks better and is more fluid than the striking. Very impressed with the depth. It's definitely a game that will take a long time to master as there are loads of different positions and buttons to remember. Seems a helluva lot easier to win with Chuck in the demo than Shogun though. I've never had much of a problem winning with Chuck but Shogun is tough to fight as. The AI seems a little more aggressive and capable with Chuck. I imagine if I got a better handle on the clinch game I could do some damage. Anyway early on I'd say people can be pretty excited about this. Who knows how broken the system will seem after we get more time with it and see more fighters, but I'm happy so far. Going to be a long month waiting for this one. |
I'm really looking forward for it. I'm also afraid of the cotrol scheme as MMA is not like boxing where you have some punches only.
What about the career mode, any info? I'll check the demo on 23th if it's available for Ps3. |
Career mode will be the key on this one. If they can give the game some depth, it should do well.
|
Just an update for everybody:
I'm downloading the demo right now. It was released today. |
It's amazing.
I have played at least 10 hours of the Demo. |
Dola
The ground game is sensational and I was most worried about that. Like it better then the striking. |
*sigh*
between this and MLB: The Show is there a reason not to get a PS3? |

I'd say it's worth it for the bluray alone. |
After playing the demo for an hour or so this definitely a must buy for me. I can't wait to create a fighter and do a career.
|
Wow, WOW, WOW!!!!
Couldn't stop playing the demo. I thought it had a chance to be a major disappointment but I am VERY glad to see that it looks like that is definitely not the case. I still have to work on the ground game (other than the ground and pound) but this is excellent so far. I don't like that one of the moves needs you to use the right stick and the buttons (luckily I forget which one it was so it must not have been that important). One of the favorite moments so far was actually one in which I lost a match. I had rocked my opponent and mounted for a ground and pound. I started raining down shots just waiting for that big one that ended it and all of a sudden he grabs my head pulls it down and throws a triangle on me for the submission. That was a major holy shit moment for me because it means that the fights may not start to get predictable once it looks like you are beating the tar out of your opponent. Definitely can't wait for May 19th!!! |
I love catching a guy for a KO. If you're prone to a big shot it'll end like that.
|
Enjoying it as well. Anyone having any trouble submitting the CPU opponent? Obviously with Chuck against Shogun it's not likely, but even playing as Shogun vs. Chuck, I still can't get any subs. Anyone else?
|
I'm downloading it now from PSN, really looking forward for this game.
|
Ok, after doing the full tutorial and like 10 fights i must admit i'm really really hooked and hyped about this game.
It's both easy to beguin with and really deep to master. Love how you can get K.O. any time even when you are giving the other fighter a beating. You can't just button mash, you really need to think on both players fighting styles to take advantage, it's a very strategical fighting game. I can only hope for a good career mode and i'll be in fighintg heaven. I was really looking forward for fight night round 4 as i'm more of a boxing fan but after playing this demo, can't wait for May 22th. It should be also so fun online playing in private leagues with mature guys who like to play realistically, of course not with kids that use exploits. |

turn on the stamina bar in the options. They have to have basically no stamina but you still have to tap buttons pretty fast to do it. I've submitted Chuck twice tops in about 200 total fights. |
Career gameplay video:

And a nice video of some fights:
|
Look at this video recorded by a guy playing the demo, some nice KO's and really realistic players movements
|
I'm definitely going to give this demo a whirl. I loved playing the wrestling games where they had the career/story mode. I haven't played a fighting/wrestling game in a few years and would love a good game to make me jump back into it.
|
Can't wait for the release date!!! Getting tired of the same two fighters, but still enjoying the demo.
|
wow - that demo looks SICK
|
I had a blast with the demo this morning. I love the ground game although I seem to fall in love with it too much and get caught while trying to move in for take downs too often.
If the career mode is done right, this game will be top notch. |
I'm in. The demo is an absolute blast even with only two fighters, and just watching other people play is entertaining due to the many ways the fight can go.
Would love to see an FOFC league (assuming you can even do that in the game). |

First rule of FOFC fight club is that nobody talks about FOFC fight club... |
yup the Demo is great and Ive pre-ordered.
I have a hard time initiating a submission attempt though, and havnt sunk one yet. |
Quote:
Same here on the submission. I've initiated a few but they always end up badly. Of course I don't think I have tried one as Rua yet. I want to preorder but I am trying to be a frugal as possible with money now. There are many bad rumors swirling around in our office so I will probably wait until it's out and then apply a few trade ins. |
Quote:
That is my only problem, i can get K.O. and T.K.O without problem with both players when standing, also some with ground and pound but i have not been able to get a single submission win. |
Only "issues" I've seen so far is that it's *really* hard to get a submission to work, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I have yet to have a fight go the distance. I've tried 10 or so matches with the aim of getting to a decision, trying to get the CPU to the ground, GnP for a while, maybe try a submission, then once he reverses, then reverse it back up to the feet, do a few leg kicks, throw some jabs then get it back to the ground. Usually this method ends up with me getting knocked out at some point in the third as I can't block all the head shots the CPU does land while we're in the standup.
Assuming part of the issue is that these are two pretty good fighters and the game is likely geared towards as few judges decisions as possible, but it does seem really slanted towards KO's (TKO's are pretty common IRL, but I'm getting a lot of one shot style KO's with each fighter). That all said, first time knocking out a guy with the head kick, flying knee, spinning back fist, superman punch or overhead right were all pretty sweet. Still playing the hell out of the demo and will be picking this up when it's released. |

Everything had to be taken with a grain of salt on the demos. Difficulty levels are often set low. Build also is likely at least 2-3 weeks old, so it's not a gold version. |

Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm in fighting games. In the Fight Night series, and the Prizefighter game, I've rarely had a fight go the distance. If it did, it's because I "carried" the other fighter. Actually, in the first Fight Night game, I did get to a decision a few times. Once I had a very close decision against Chris Byrd. I won the first few rounds easily, but because he was so defensive, I wasted a lot of energy and came back in the middle rounds. Luckily, I did enough damage to get 2 knockdowns in the last two rounds and ended up with a close unanimous decision. Those 2 knockdowns won me the fight. It was the most fun I ever had playing a fighting game, but it was also my first career in it so I was still learning at that point. Once I learned how to play more, it became a joke. Fight Night 2 and 3 ended up being even easier. Anyway, I'm hoping this game (and FN4) will be tougher at higher difficulty and maybe even have some sliders to tweak. But I've learned not to get expectations too high. If it has a fun career mode, I'll be buying it. |
Because Rua and Liddell are both more knockout guys, I think the tendency may be to have more knockouts with them, although it would be nice if this was toned down a bit.
Playing as Demian Maia, I don't see you knocking the other guy out much. However, I do hope in the final version submissions are a bit easier, otherwise there could be a lot of lay and pray victories with guys like Maia. |
They said in some videos it's also more dependent on the weight class you're using to fight. Heavyweights and Light Heavyweights will see more knock outs than Lightweights.
I think they have Chuck a bit over rated in comparison to Shogun's striking which also skews things a bit. |
Update:
Got one fight to a decision yesterday (but may have fried my laptop in the mean time, hence why no update until now, heh). Playing as Rua and just kept the fight on the ground going GnP as much as possible along with a lot of leg kicks and blocks during the stand up. Found it very funny that all 3 judges scored the fight differently as I picked up the unanimous decision. Cards were: 30-24, 30-25 and 30-27. Normally I'd say this is an issue, but given judge scoring at UFC events I'd say this might be pretty bang on. It was a pretty one sided affair so I didn't mind seeing that many 10-8 rounds. Also saw a submission (Rua with a triangle, unfortunately I was playing as Chuck in that match). Still the only finish I've seen via submission, but it did finally happen. Lastly, after finishing off a pair of fights on the first punch in the second round, started wondering how quickly a match could be finished early (especially given the two included in the demo) and can verify that one can get a KO in about 10 seconds ;) A spinning backfist followed by 2 or 3 overhand rights were more than Rua could handle and down he went at the 10 second mark of the first round. My next best mark is 30 seconds, so obviously everything went pretty much perfectly in that example, but it was cool to get a win that fast. |
A quick way to get a win with Rua in the highest level is just to get Chuck in the muay thai clinch and hit him with the knees on the body sides, his stamina drains so fast, then you just need a good kick in the head to K.O him.
Standing fighting might be a bit too powerful compared with the ground one, at least with the two guys in the demo. |
Quote:
I am hoping that is because they focused on luring people with the big knockout in the demo and that it's not the completely finished product (or that is tweakable in some way). As much fun as the demo is, it may get repetitive quite quickly if every fight ends up in a knockout. |
Quote:
I think it's not too bad, take Shogun for instance, only 2 of his fights have ended in decision in his entire career, and for Chuck it's less than 40% of his fights ended in a decision. They've tried to mirror how the fighters actually are, and I think for the two fighters they have in the demo it's pretty accurate. Both fighters go to fight all out. |
|
cant wait!
|
I'm still having big problems winning by submission.
I can win matches in the max level with both guys by standing KO or on the ground, but mainly by ground and pound, not by submission, so i guess my created guy will be an striking monster and will try to win all games while standing. |
I'm planning on starting off with a Muay Thai/wrestler. Looking for clinch fighting while standing, the ability to pull off big slams, then go for GnP. Once I'm comfortable with him then I might try a BJJ guy and really try to figure out the submission system.

i want to buy a ps3 just for this game and mlb:the show

Anyone interested in a FOFC UFC League?
On another forum I visit they decided on two weight limits, and there is a 2 round draft where you pick one from each. They had 12 guys involved. Then a schedule is made so everyone fights twice a week (once per character) leading to a playoff. Could be something worth doing if we have the interest. |
Im afraid, off the bat, my thumbs place me at a severe disadvantage.....
theyre there, theyre fine, but my brain doesnt seem to make them work with the game controllers these days like the old days. I seemed to lose touch after the N64 honestly. |

I'm assuming you're talking on the 360? If there's a PS3 league I'd be interested. |
I'm in for any 360 league.
