first

Anyone else noticed this annoying/immature practice of people either racing to be the first response to a message board post or a news article that allows comments by only writing the word "first"?

first

to avoid the inevitable

Noop 04-18-2009 12:23 PM

I wonder where that stupid thing started.

MJ4H 04-18-2009 12:23 PM

I have. Bizarre practice.

Spoiler

flounder 04-18-2009 12:47 PM

I first noticed it on Slashdot, but I'm not sure it started there.

Karlifornia 04-18-2009 02:24 PM

Duh. If you're first, you win.

Ronnie Dobbs2 04-18-2009 02:25 PM

I have never noticed that before.

JonInMiddleGA 04-18-2009 02:25 PM

Seems most prevalent on newspaper blogs & websites, although certainly not limited to there either.

Yes. I too find it important to figure out who was the first to do that stupid thing.

spleen1015 04-18-2009 03:16 PM

I think I noticed it first on the WoW boards.

Agreed. This is a net peeve of mine. (not sure if that's a real term, but it just sprung to mind as I was writing it)

I like it.

I have no idea what kind of person finds the enjoyment of doing that greater than the annoyance of having to remember to do it if the opportunity presents itself.

Crim 04-18-2009 10:41 PM

I think it started in this thread, actually. It seems to be so prevalent in this particular thread, in fact, that the OP did it himself. Bizarre indeed.

Cringer 04-19-2009 12:52 AM

This does not effect 70-80% of the threads I have started at FOFC, which usually go 24 hours before anyone posts anything in them. :)

It was probably funny somewhere at sometime for some reason, but now... *shrug*
