Belief-O-Matic
Ran across an interesting link to something called the Belief-O-Matic. The description is:
Even if YOU don't know what faith you are, Belief-O-Matic knows. Answer 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more, and Belief-O-Matic will tell you what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing. So after answering the questions, it presents a list of faiths in order that more closely match your beliefs. I'll be damned if it didn't match mine at 100%. Not looking beyond the mere entertainment value... YMMV. |
Ok, I bit, even though I can't stand that site. I'm actually surprised my computer didn't blow up. ;)
Not surprised by the results one bit, though it does say I'm 34% Scientologist. Looks like I'll have to go watch Battlefield Earth now. |
My top 3
1. Unitarian Universalism (100%) 2. New Thought (82%) 3. Liberal Quakers (80%) Bottom 3 25. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (20%) 26. Jehovah's Witness (20%) 27. Seventh Day Adventist (19%) |
No surprise really:
Top 4 1. Secular Humanism (100%) 2. Unitarian Universalism (97%) 3. Liberal Quakers (83%) 4. Theravada Buddhism (72%) Bottom 4 24. Orthodox Judaism (20%) 25. Eastern Orthodox (16%) 26. Roman Catholic (16%) 27. Jehovah's Witness (9%) Secular Humanism: • Belief in Deity Not considered important. Most Humanists are atheists or agnostics. • Incarnations Same as above. • Origin of Universe and Life The scientific method is most respected as the means for revealing the mysteries of the origins of the universe and life. • After Death An afterlife or spiritual existence after death is not recognized. • Why Evil? No concept of “evil.” Reasons for wrongdoing are explored through scientific methods, e.g. through study of sociology, psychology, criminology. • Salvation No concept of afterlife or spiritual liberation or salvation. Realizing ones personal potential and working for the betterment of humanity through ethical consciousness and social works are considered paramount, but from a naturalistic rather than supernatural standpoint. • Undeserved Suffering No spiritual reasons but rather a matter of human vulnerability to misfortune, illness, and victimization. • Contemporary Issues The American Humanist Association endorses elective abortion. Other contemporary views include working for equality for homosexuals, gender equality, a secular approach to divorce and remarriage, working to end poverty, promoting peace and nonviolence, and environmental protection. |
1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%)
2. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (91%) 3. Orthodox Quaker (89%) ... 25. Taoism (28%) 26. Jainism (26%) 27. Nontheist (21%) Not really super suprising for me. |

Seventh Day Adventist (11%) I guess I missed something in 13 years of Catholic school... :) My dad's parents were Unitarian, but they never discussed religion with me, so I really don't know much about it. The only time I've been to a Unitarian service was both of their funerals. We did have a small statue of Buddha in our house when I was growing up, so maybe I got something out of that. :) |
Ok, I'll throw in my top & bottom 5:

Once I saw the questions I had a pretty good idea of how the answers would turn out (the absence of questions about the identity/role/existence of Jesus, the nature of prophets, and little about the role of clergy) ... but I'll post so a few of you can have a little fun with my results ;)
1. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (100%) 2. Orthodox Judaism (99%) 3. Islam (97%) 4. Seventh Day Adventist (93%) 5. Orthodox Quaker (89%) ... 23. Neo-Pagan (24%) 24. New Thought (21%) 25. New Age (20%) 26. Secular Humanism (19%) 27. Taoism (18%) |

Count me as a 100% UU’er. I was really hoping for Neo-Pagan; maybe next time.

1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Mahayana Buddhism (94%) ... 26. Eastern Orthodox (10%) 27. Roman Catholic (10%) 9 years of Catholic school, CYO, Boy Scouts out of the Parish, Confirmation, ect., FAIL. And the strange part? I can't disagree with the test results, yet I still don't feel uncomfortable with having my beliefs and being in a Catholic mass or ceremony. Weird. |

See, mission accomplished (as to why I posted my results) :) Like I said, once I saw the questions I could have predicted the similarity in results. |
Top 3:
Bottom 3 (5, due to tie):
Pretty accurate I guess, but there were an awful lot of 'atheist' options. |
The implication that I could be as much as 6% Jehovah's Witnessing makes me want to burn these people at the stake.
|
1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
2. Secular Humanism (97%) 3. Theravada Buddhism (92%) 4. Liberal Quakers (88%) 5. Neo-Pagan (72%) |
No surprise |
Thank you for posting the link, I found the process fascinating.
was very surprised to learn that I am Jewish, especially because I grew up Catholic and as an adult have mostly attended Presbyterian. |
