BBQ (not a parody thread)
I really enjoy pulled pork barbecue but there is a real lack of decent barbecue around here. My particular favorite is the vinegar based you see out in North Carolina (Stamey's in Greensboro is probably the best I've ever had). Any body have any luck doing true barbecue at home and if so, what steps did you use? Thanks in advance.

Your thread title is just asking for someone to create a thread:
BBQ (A Parroty thread) with pictures of parrots on the grill. |
yep but it involves a full pig, a trailer mounted smoker, much beer and many hours
|
Carolina BBQ is my favorite as well. Too bad I'm in even a worse place than you to find some.

Yeah, I can believe it. We go to Myrtle Beach every year and we stop in Greensboro so I can buy $100 worth of Stamey's to freeze (they won't ship, sadly) and to go to a fast food chain called Cookout. As you can tell, I'm having my BBQ craving earlier than usual since it is still seven weeks away. |
Eastern North Carolina Pulled Pork is by far my favorite bbq dish.

I was at Cookout when I visited a friend in Raleigh a couple of years ago. Fantastic place.

I had what was probably a poor example of Carolina BBQ in the Charlotte Airport...and loved it. I've been dying to road trip ever since.
I'm at least somewhat fortunate that we have a Famous Dave's close by here and they do some nice BBQ. Frankly, if it's BBQ, I love it. I've had Memphis and Texas and enjoyed them both. Georgia BBQ is nice. The last one on my list to try is KC's. |

There is an eastern NC BBQ joint that has franchised out a little called Smithfield's. There is one in the little town that I live in in Central NC. I am not a huge BBQ connoisseur so I can't make a lot of comparisons other than to say that me and my family enjoy it quite a bit. They do ship a few items: Smithfield's Chicken 'N BAR-B-Q®: Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Q and Chicken Family Restaurants edit: they actually have 30 stores across the state, so perhaps some of our other NC Residents more into BBQ than I have tried it and could offer recommendations :D |
Radii, you're awesome! I'll probably give that a shot, thanks!
And having looked at the site, that is exactly the kind of barbecue I love. Thanks! So now I'll some Brewman's Sweet Tea and some Carolina Barbecue! (can you tell I miss the Carolinas?) |
I go back and forth between vinegar based sauces and mustard based sauces (more commonly found in South Carolina). I've only found one spot in LA that I'm willing to give repeat business.

Vinegar based is a nice way to ruin meat!
Actually I am a BBQ whore and love red, yellow and vinegar sauces...as long as it is pig, pulled, and slow cooked. |
