Analog TV, we hardly knew ye.

On June 12th 2009 at 12:01 AM analog TV died. Analog TV leaves behind a family of millions of analog TVs, scanners, and radios that will no longer tune in the analog signals of television.

ALL HAIL DIGITAL TV!

RainMaker 06-12-2009 12:48 AM

I don't know much about this stuff but what was the point in killing analog? It seemed to be dying on its own but did it save money or help us in some way?

The way they pushed this through with no warning at all, i can see how you were unprepared.......

The biggest thing not talked about is all those crappy battery powered portable TVs people have hanging around, mostly for emergencies. Those suckers are nothing but paper weights now. Of course if other people are anything like me, they forget they even have those things stored away even when the power goes off.

Yep...them auctions is big bidness.

Phones at the FCC are going to be very active this weekend.

We bought a new one last year for storm season just before they announced the switch. We used it extensively during the 5 day power outage from Gustav. Oh well, at least it can act as a gigantic radio.

Before I decide whether to be 100% behind this change or 100% against it, I need to know whether Republicans or Democrats pushed it through.

Damn you, DanGarion. I came on FOFC just to post the same topic with the same title. :)

As stated above, they're going to sell the spectrum to use for other stuff.

Um. Perhaps you've been on the moon for two years, but the government will pay for a converter box for you.

It was. Really a shame. To go so suddenly.

Oh, he was dying for years.

Sure, but the end was so sudden.

He was in intensive care for eight weeks.

Yes, but the very end, when he actually died,
that was extremely sudden.

Great Fletch reference.

I was at my youngest step daughters middle school graduation yesterday and I was walking with my wife to where the ceremony was being held. So we turn a corner and there's all the chairs set up for the guests and the students. The students section was taped off with yellow caution tape obviously 'cautioning' people that you can't sit here or go that way. My wife makes a beeline towards the student section gets about 5 feet away from it, comes back and says, "Follow me, we can't go that way."

So, I gave her my most indignant look I could muster and said, "What!?" and then I said, "Oh that yellow caution tape that we saw from about 50 yards back."

I was in the dog house after that.

That would not surprise me. :)

I was on the way to pick up a digital converter last night, and then Officer Robert Powell stopped me for running a red light. I kept screaming, my analog tv is dying! but he didn't want to hear that.

Needless to say I didn't get to the store in time.
