In a draft of current NFL players, who would you take #1?
If all of the current NFL players were put into a pool (no, not THAT kind of a pool, Fritz), and there was a completely new league to be drafted, who would you select as #1?
No trading down is allowed. I'm leaning toward Vick or perhaps Brooks, Urlacher, or Arrington, but let the debate begin. |
Vick
|
Vick or Ray Lewis
|
Marshall Faulk
|
Being absolutely totally biased I'd take Pennington which would probably put me in a small minority. I think soley based on potential I'd take Vick. I think the most talented players in the league now are Owens and Urlacher. Hmm, I guess I've taken four guys now. So to settle all this I'd pick the Tampa Bay defense first. :D
Tarkus |
Vick

Not exactly sure who, but I would look for a LT with youth, ability, durability, and good health.

Walter Jones, maybe? |

O Pace |
Orlando Pace (depending on whether or not he thinks he is really worth a $50M signing bonus) or John Odgen.
|
Peyton Manning
|
Jerry Rice
|
Donovan McNabb

WOW Not trying to be a jerk, but would you care to defend that choice? I am under the impression that his stock has dropped off quite a bit over the past couple years. |

But he didn't go to Rutgers...? |

correction, Ray Lucas followed by Mike McMahon Marco Battaglia Jay Bellamey |
Vick

Then you can pick up Dan Marino in the 2nd round to throw to him. :D |
It's pointless to ask for just the #1. There are only a few players you could possibly make a case for without making an ass out of yourself.
So what the hell, give me Jerry Rice. |
Vick
|
derrick brooks

It all depends on...
1) Who's calling the shots? If I'm in charge, that's one thing. If I have an owner/board/coach/GM to answer to, that's quite another thing entirely. 2) How big are the rosters? 3) How many teams will there be? 4) How many rounds is the draft? 5) Will players be asked to go both ways? 6) What are my team's economic resources? OK, enough waffling. If I had enough other resources to get a decent RB and a decent OL, I'd choose Pennington. Otherwise I'd go with Vick. |
Chaaaaadwick Pennington

Geez, no need to get your balls all twisted. If it's so pointless to you just stay out of the damn thread. Why can't we just have a discussion among knowledgable peers about who those "few players" might be and why? Quote:

Well, being a Colts fan I am a bit biased. On the other hand I watch him play alot. I think his performance has dropped as the level of talent around him has. When you are giving up 30+ points a game it makes it tough to have a balanced attack. The other guy knows you are going to throw. And last year with Edge not at 100% and Rhodes out the Colts didnt have much of a running game. So once again they were 1 dimensional. Throw in the fact that the only reliable target is Marvin Harrison and its easy for the other team to know what you are going to do and who the ball is targeted at. All of that aside, I think that even though he gets harped on for calling audibleing too much. But against Philly he called every play the entire game and beat Philly in Philly with a perfect QB rating. I remember Brett Favre leading the leauge in INTs a few years back beacuse he was trying to force throws and make plays, and he has proved to be a HOF QB. I think Manning is one of the top QBs in the leauge and will most likely make the HOF, barring injury. |
Vick
|
While all the guys who are picking Vick are building for the future, I'll be winning SuperBowls now with McNabb. :D
|
I would choose the league's best young RB, LaDainian Tomlinson.

Go with JO, Pace's agent is an ass. Hmmm... MLB Ray Lewis Todd |

Ditto. I'll go with McNabb. |
Vick.

Tom Tupa

In that case, gotta go with Pennington. |

Ditto. Its not a sure thing that Vick is ever going to be as good as McNabb is right now. Before I get jumped on, I agree that the potential is there, but sometimes that never develops. |
Fuad Reveiz, I'd bring him out of retirement.
|
Bjorn Nittmo.
|
LeBron James
|
Vick
|
Chris Simms.
|
Korey Stringer
|
Favre, McNab, or Vick.

That is just wrong. Your a jackass. |

Perhaps, but how does it feel to know a jackass with better grammar than your own? ;-) Lighten up, buddy. |
I'd go with Vick without question. Urlacher, Tomlinson or Portis, Julius Peppers and Ogden would be in the mix somewhere.
As for Pace, maybe it was his health. Maybe it was just an off year. Maybe. . . No maybies about it, the guy was average at best last year. I didn't think he was pro bowl worthy, much less #1 player in the NFL worthy. As for Pennington, I'll be convinced after he does it this season. Right or wrong, I want to see how this kid does after the rest of the league watches some tape and makes some adjustments. Is he truly a "special" Joe Montana type of guy? We'll find out this year. -------Just a precurser to anyone who fires back that Vick hasn't proven anything either, keep in mind I've been convinced Vick would be great for a long time. He has to disprove that theory in my mind. I've always thought Pennington would be average. He has to convince me he's that special. Is that fair? I'll be honest, I don't know. I do know that nobody can accuse me of hiding my bias. I also know that my opinion can be changed. I also know that the coming year is HUGE for both of these players, no matter what any of our opinions are of them. :) TroyF |

I'd personally like to know where the supposed humor in your post is. I personally think you're a jackass for your post, but am more than willing for you to prove me wrong. Go ahead, I'm waiting. |
