Is this monitor fried? (with picture)

It's totally dead, right?

Kodos 07-29-2009 01:46 PM

I'm no expert, but that looks bad.

gstelmack 07-29-2009 01:48 PM

I think my internet connection is dead after downloading that monstrosity of a picture. At least it wasn't an animated GIF...

Subby 07-29-2009 01:50 PM

Maybe it's your video card.

There is a great vBulletin hack that automatically resizes huge pictures so that they fit in the framework of the forum. Definitely worth a look from Ryan S, I would think.

Visitors to the 2+2 forums have probably seen it in action.

ISiddiqui 07-29-2009 01:53 PM

Kick it!!

JediKooter 07-29-2009 01:55 PM

Graphics card possibly. If you have another computer to plug it into, try that and see if the same thing happens.

flere-imsaho 07-29-2009 01:56 PM

I don't think it's totally dead - it could be a video card problem. But it definitely doesn't look good.

Kodos 07-29-2009 01:57 PM

If it's not completely dead, that means it is somewhat alive.

JediKooter 07-29-2009 02:08 PM

But if it's not dead and it's not alive, what is it??? Is this part of the zombie conspiracy?

ISiddiqui 07-29-2009 02:11 PM

Zombies?!

Kick it in the head!!

gstelmack 07-29-2009 02:22 PM

Well, it is running its self-test which would seem to eliminate the video card.

Easiest test is to plug a different monitor into the computer and plug the monitor into a different computer and you'll know which one the problem is.

Coffee Warlord 07-29-2009 02:26 PM

That looks a lot like a bad connection between the video card and the monitor.

So yeah. Plug/unplug/swap monitors. Might not be really dead.

Atocep 07-29-2009 02:27 PM

That looks more like a video card or cable problem than the monitor itself. As other said, I'd suggest plugging in another monitor and see if it does the same.

Dutch 07-29-2009 02:30 PM

I would definately test out your video card on another monitor.

It's mostly dead compared to completely dead.

Kodos 07-29-2009 02:31 PM

I'm no expert, but I would definately test out your video card on another monitor. Don't know if anyone has mentioned that yet.

MJ4H 07-29-2009 02:48 PM

I would go office space on this thing it's dead don't bother testing it. Also please upload video of it when you do thanks in advance.

Kodos 07-29-2009 02:54 PM

Make sure there is a picture of that 14-year old girl that MJ4H likes on it as you destroy it.

cthomer5000 07-29-2009 04:32 PM

1. It's not even plugged into the PC, which probably eliminates the video card.

2. Another monitor is working fine, which probably eliminates the video card.

I have (well 'had') a dual monitor setup. I lost half my picture to those color bars... got it working again, but it crapped out again about a week later. I was just checking to see if anyone has any insight. I'm assuming it's totally dead. If that is the case, I would say I got a solid run out of the monitor.... I think it's 5 years old and got constant heavy usage.

Subby 07-29-2009 05:52 PM

I would say your monitor is fried.

SteveMax58 07-29-2009 06:15 PM

I think the wallpaper looks a bit too...fruity.

I'd recommend going with a paisley or floral pattern.

Welp, there's your problem, plug the thing into your computer. Duh ;)

gstelmack 07-29-2009 08:21 PM

Looks like a good excuse for a nice new widescreen LCD. What's your budget and any limit on size?

fantom1979 07-29-2009 08:26 PM

Have you tried plugging it into another computer? I have heard somewhere that that is a great way to test a monitor. You might also try another monitor on your computer. That way you can be sure its not your video card.

Kodos 07-30-2009 08:38 AM

Dude - you got a Dell!

Ahhh.... Well, in that case, it's dead Jim.

Dumb question. Have you tried plugging it into any computer? :)
