Who is going to be the Odd man out in Minnesota?

With the Addition of Brett who gets the pink slip?

1) Favre
2) Jackson
3) Rosenfels
4) Booty

Booty already had to give up his #4 jersey, I wonder if he will also lose his Viking jersey as well. I am assuming that Booty would not clear waivers to be put on the practice squad.

Epi_862 08-24-2009 03:36 AM

They'll keep all four, unless someone overpays for Tarvaris.

SackAttack 08-24-2009 03:44 AM

Green Bay sports radio keeps talking about Tavaris Jackson to SF making sense. Who knows.

I suspect he'd have the most trade value of the Jackson/Rosenfels/Booty trio, though.

No chance SF trades for Jackson.

albionmoonlight 08-24-2009 07:55 AM

Jackson is the odd man out. If Favre is the present, and Sage is the immediate future, and Booty is the slightly more distant future, then you have got to get rid of Jackson.

larrymcg421 08-24-2009 08:04 AM

Rosenfels: Career 5.2 INT% (Coming off a season where he was worse)
Jackson: Career 3.4 INT% (Coming off a season where he was much better)

Could someone explain to me what has caused everyone to just completely dismiss Jackson after starting only 19 games?

DaddyTorgo 08-24-2009 08:05 AM

I dunno...I kind of like Jackson. I mean I don't think he's great right now or anything, but he has the potential still to be something, where Rosenfels is pretty much...maxed out

albionmoonlight 08-24-2009 08:18 AM

I have not followed the two enough to know that Rosenfels is better. But it seemed like Minnesota made that choice when they brought him on board. The sense I got was that he was being signed to be the starter (pre-Favre, of course).

gstelmack 08-24-2009 08:19 AM

I want Favre to have another 25% completion game and get axed.

RedKingGold 08-24-2009 08:20 AM

Methinks you'll see Jackson in the UFL shortly.

JonInMiddleGA 08-24-2009 10:21 AM

Odd man? Minnesota? Has to be this guy

RomaGoth 08-24-2009 10:25 AM

Where is the poll?

Bobble 08-24-2009 10:38 AM

First man out? It's gotta be that new kid, Farve or whatever. I mean, come on. That's just not the name of a future hall-of-famer.

NewIdentity 08-24-2009 11:20 AM

Poll closes Sept 5th. So all those wanting to pull a Vick vote and wait until after the Vikings make their final cuts to vote will be out of luck. :)

Kodos 08-24-2009 11:44 AM

I bet Favre will spontaneously retire in a few weeks, saying he just doesn't have anything left to give.

He'll then sign with the Bears 3 weeks later.

MJ4H 08-24-2009 11:49 AM

who names their qb after a bean anyway

Nicely done.

Don't forget he needs to announce his retirement, then delay the press conference for a week, then come back to the NFL, delay the press conference another week, then sign with the Lions.

Eh, they're just copying MLB with Lima & Pinto.

The funniest thing about this would be Jay Cutler's reaction.

By funniest, do you mean his tirade and an immediate demand to be traded? Yes, that would be rather humorous.

NewIdentity 09-04-2009 07:08 PM

Jackson takes the lead.

Reports are everywhere saying that the Vikings are currently shopping Jackson around.

With the polls closing in a few days all those last minute voters better jump on the Jackson bandwagon now!

NewIdentity 09-05-2009 12:35 AM

This one is going to go down to the wire. The guys at NFL live just said the Vikings are going to have to keep Jackson, because neither Rosenfels or Booty are a viable #2.

Then why did they trade for Rosenfelds if he isn't at least a #2?

Julio Riddols 09-05-2009 03:54 AM

The Vikings are retarded for giving up on this guy. I really can't understand it. He played pretty damned good, especially in the last 5 weeks last year, and had pretty much nobody to really throw to. If I recall correctly, he was the top rated passer in the league over that span. Thats no easy feat no matter who the RB is, and it shows a measure of consistency. It also came after he had been benched, which shows he is willing and able to learn and bounce back from struggles. He also has the support of the team.

In my opinion, I hope he goes to Denver or SF or even Detroit and gets to start like he deserves. He's getting positively fucked by the front office in Minny.

He and Jason Campbell should start a 'Dangerfield QB Club' for talented young passers who are given no respect. (Funny thing is, its probably because of a certain stigma regarding black QBs. I don't doubt this plays into the equation one bit.)

NiteMaestro 09-05-2009 09:20 AM

Jackson will stay. He's shown the potential, and the work ethic to take a restructured deal for the next few years. He'll be a starter yet... Probably next year.

Sage is good, but not young or a solid starter. He's serviceable, but with Jackson making strides, the Vikings will soon feel that they overpaid IMO.

Farve starts, of course.

Booty? He's cheap. So keep him.

Booty will probably be PSed this year, or the Vikings will try to ship Sage to NE (if the Eagles don't send Feeley first, lol)

Black QB issue?
With Jackson? I don't think so.... Last I remember, wasn't their owner black (or still is? iunno).
Campbell? Yes.
The Redskins are still owned by Dan Snyder... So the fact that JCampbell is black most DEFINITELY plays a part in this. At least in the front office...

ROTF... I remember that.
You're wrong for posting it though... :P

sovereignstar 09-05-2009 09:38 AM

I'm a Vikings fan who's very familiar with the good decisions of Mr. Jackson. I wish I could find the highlight of the backwards jump pass Jackson threw in the must-win game against the Skins in '07. The guy gets no respect though. No respect at all.

I look at it like McNabb's situation in Philly.
He may never get the respect, and may be a better QB for it. The Black QB thing is always there (and always will be), but I've never gotten the impression that Minn. was one of the teams that had a history with it. They always seemed rather progressive IMO.

I think Childress and the organization want to keep Jackson around. He can get it done, but the team is in a 'win now' situation. Making it so his development is 'harmful' to the team as a whole. Look at Tenn. We're in the same situation. We are in a 'win now' stage, so Kerry's the better option. I believe VY will be a better QB in the long run, but for right now, we need someone who can manage the game and make plays when we need them. Thusly, Collins, and Favre. :P

claphamsa 09-05-2009 11:01 AM

People think jason Campbell has talent? have they not seen him play?

He's not an elite QB, imo.
But he has the arm, is accurate enough. Smart (to learn 7 systems in 8 years?!? gotta be smarter than ur average bear)

He'll be like a strong armed Pennington. Not gonna light up the scoreboard. But a great QB to compliment a strong run. He won't make mistakes often.

Booty = Cut

But the option is still open for him to be signed to the P.S. if nobody signs him.

I am still shocked Garcia was cut by the Raiders. I would love to see Denver now pick him up.

bhlloy 09-06-2009 03:17 PM

Considering Booty wasn't really a great QB with all that talent around him at USC and doesn't have above average physical tools, this makes sense IMO. Jackson has twice the upside he does. I'd be absolutely stunned if Booty is ever even a decent backup QB in the NFL to be honest.

Eaglesfan27 09-06-2009 10:06 PM

NFL Network is reporting that Booty was signed to the Viking's practice squad this evening.

sovereignstar 10-14-2009 06:12 PM

Booty was released from the practice squad today.
