David Bloom, R.I.P.
David Bloom died of a pulmonary embolism while at the frontlines in Baghdad last night. He was 39 and leaves behind three young children. He was doing a great job reporting for NBC on a specially made vehicle that allowed him to report live, with a clear picture, while on the move. I watched him often on the Weekends on "Today." He seemed to be a nice guy, and I will miss him.
Godspeed, David. |
Very saddening... he had a very good combination of savvy and humor.
|
Very sad. I remember him from 10+ years ago on the Miami NBC station. Strange way to go, being in the middle of war and all.
|
Is it true ? My goodness how sad! I just saw him live on msnbc yesterday . God Rest his soul .

NEW YORK, April 6 — David Bloom, an NBC News correspondent embedded with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division outside Baghdad, died Sunday, NBC announced. Bloom, a 39-year-old husband and father of three, died of an apparent pulmonary embolism, the company said. He was the second American journalist to die in Iraq since the war began.
Im sorry to hear this news . It seemed he as really dedicated to his line of work specially what I saw of him during the push to Baghdad . |
I know what an embolism is, but what does it mean if it's pulmonary?
|
Its in the lungs
|
Pulmonary Embolism is usually caused by not walking around and standing up for a long tome or extreme dehydration . The Blood just coagulates in the vein and the clot travels to the lungs and well death .

This is really the first time a report dying has had any affect on me. I really liked what he did as he seemed like he really was having fun.

Wasn't he? Zipping along in his converted tank-tower, with those funky goggles. He just seemed to be a really nice guy too. I mean it could be phony, but then again I keep hearing all these stories from his competetors where he went out of his way to be helpful, even when it hurt him. He was always so energetic and full of life. Never met the man, but I feel like I lost someone. |
Ya, it's sad news. He seemed like a really good guy
RIP:( |

Same here. |
My aunt and uncle were very good friends of David's. Their kids go to school together. They have talked to me and my family about him several times always talking about how nice a guy he was. He will be missed greatly.

There's a real nice obit on salon.com right now.

This really saddened me when I heard about it. I really enjoyed his reports. He seemed so enthusiastic about his job. I can't help but wish it had been Geraldo instead.
|
Very sad indeed! He seemed like a really good guy too!
