play scripting

I dunno if it is still the case but I remember some teams were into scripting their first 15 or so plays.

I think this would be a cool feature to implement into the game. It would add immersion to the SP or MP experience.

You can gameplan all you want, but dicerolls might get in the way.

This would be awsome. But I think there would be too much variable action for it to work. If your 5th scripted play calls for a long bomb and its 3rd and 1 at the opponents 1, that would be bad.

Well you'd have to allow for obvious down and distance overrides.

Even if it was as simple as "inside run left" or "short pass play to FL" instead of actual play calls.

"it" meaning the script.

Bill Walsh was a big proponent of scripting plays as he saw himself as a smarter strategist on Thursday nights than in the heat of battle on Sundays. Third and short, red zone plays, or other more specific scenarios had their own scripted plays that he'd simply flip to as they arose. It'd be a cool addition, and, even though it might seemingly be more work, it'd probably be less tedious than the current boxes of percentages because most people would feel more connected to the inputs.

Correct me if I'm wrong... (and MalcPow may have already said this)

But scripts aren't like "15 plays we'll run in that order"... It's more of 15 plays for each 'main' situation.
15 - 1/2nd down and 7-12yds
20 - 1/2nd down and <7yds
10 - 3rd and short
5 - 3rd and mid

That way you can feel out a defense with those plays that you know you can run very well and then adjust (usually come 2nd quarter) to exploit those weaknesses (assuming the defense hasn't... :P)
