Disaster Strikes: Stay or Go?

So, while running this morning I was watching The Day After Tomorrow and one of the decisions they had was to leave NYC or stay and wait for a rescue. Well, obviously the decision to stay for rescue was the right choice as the people who left died.

Contrary to that, in the Poseidon Adventure and Poseidon, the people who stayed and waited for rescue died and the people who left (well some of them) made it out.

In general, what would you do? Poll coming.

What Would Bear Grylls Do?

Depends on the type of disaster. Zombie Apocalypse... GET THE HELL OUT! Giant freeze storm coming? Head south!

All depends on the situation, the warning you have ahead of time, and how potentially deadly the disaster is.

Give me a scenario and I can give you an answer.

As a rule, I think it's usually best to get out of town, but in a situation where you have an entire city trying to evacuate in 2 hours, I think it's probably best to use some patience.

The trout option is pretty solid. In the post-apocalyptic world trout is going to be a very valuable currency. Especially now white people are crazy about sushi.

I was thinking about this after watching a program on tsunamis on the History Channel.

If a 60 ft high tsunami were bearing down on NYC, crossing the Atlantic at ~500 mph, what would be better... (if at work down by Wall Street) take the chance of leaving, hoping to get to NJ (then what?) or just get to a high point in the building?

fixed

and I would get out. I don't think I could handle just sitting around, but I do agree the scenario would dictate my decision.

It'd be a good time to try hot air ballooning as a hobby.

Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble,
And if I stay it will be double

Depends entirely on the situation and type of emergency - for instance if I was somewhere without my family I'd probably be more gung-ho into wandering off than if I'm here at home with my wife and 3 kids ...

PS - Great song quote Cartman, was listening to 'Rock the Casbah' this morning :D

I guess we will all find out in 2012, eh?
