Monitor and KVM suggestions
Since we're in the time of good computer deals, I thought I'd take a look at getting a new monitor.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd like one at least 23", but no other preferences. Also, what are some of the important things to look for in a monitor? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a KVM? I bought a 2 port one from Best Buy last night, but not only can I get it cheaper, I think I should get a 4 port one instead. I'll use it with a Windows XP desktop, a Linux desktop, and possibly a Windows 7 laptop. Thanks. |
Just bought a Hanns-G 29" from Newegg for $299 with free shipping.

I'm interested in the KVM thing, too. Most of the KVMs I've seen are VGA connections, but I need DVI. The very few DVI KVMs I've found online are fairly expensive. Any cheap options to connect two computers with DVI connections to one monitor?

Thought you guys were referring to a Kernel-based VM here. Nm, just passing through.

On monitors, subscribe to the slickdeals feed and keep your eyes peeled. Most are commodities, but check the reviews on NewEgg. You can buy a 23" widescreen monitor for $150 if all you want is a decent picture and a couple of inputs. You're paying $300+ if you want the super-high-quality panels (IPS?) instead of TA, but most folks won't notice the difference. I've got a 23" Dell I bought for $150 a few months back that I love, and there are similar deals all the time right now.

Yeah, this one doesn't have to be a super picture, just good. It'll be my work monitor which will double as the kids' monitor. Hmmm, maybe I should get 2 20" and do a dual monitor setup. :)
