Officers found both citric acid packets and a similar-looking unidentified substance, believed to be some kind of explosive material, on a table near the body, the agency continued.

Citric acid, explosive materials, who can tell the difference?

Given that he had both things on his desk and apparently close enough to each other that he could make such a ghastly mistake (assuming it was a mistake), it is a most deserving Darwin Award and certainly a good late entry into Darwin of the Year and Darwin of the Decade.

Dude apparently doesn't have a name. I'm not calling Darwin on this one, I'm calling BS.

Not only doesn't he have a name, but "a forensic examination established that the chewing gum was covered with an unidentified chemical substance, thought to be some type of explosive material." Wouldn't the whole point of a forensic examination be to determine what the "unknown chemical substance" was? Also, it's super explosive, can't be traveled with, and blew off half this dude's face, but apparently left the piece of gum undisturbed, for investigation.
