24 The Movie Closer to Becoming a Reality

This would have the most deaths and plot twists per minute then any movie ever.

24 Feature Film Gets Writer, Script
February 9th, 2010 | 0 Comments | Email | Share

Twentieth Century Fox’s film and TV studios are finally bringing hit television series 24 to the big screen. The film side has hired scribe Billy Ray to write the script for the feature version. The story, which takes Jack Bauer to Europe, was popular with Fox executives and producers of the show. The script is said to have come through 24 star Kiefer Sutherland, who’s also an executive producer on the series – and is said to be eager to turn the long-running show into a feature franchise.

The 24 movie would be produced by the TV show’s key executive producers, including Sutherland. The series was created by Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, while executive producer Howard Gordon runs the show through his Real Time Prodsuctions banner.Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, which produces the show along with 20th Century Fox TV, also would be involved.

The 24 feature is still very much in the preliminary stages. There are a number of factors influencing how quickly it moves ahead, including the fate of the TV show. Fox doesn’t have a deal for a ninth season of 24 and hasn’t yet decided whether to order another season. The network is waiting to see this week’s ratings before making a decision, but this season will likely be the final one. Even if Fox passes on another year of 24, 20th Century Fox TV could shop the show to other networks. In that case, a feature might have to take a back seat.

I've been okay with the idea of having this be the last season, with the movie being the cap on the franchise as a whole. I've been with 24 since day 1 and despite some up and downs, loved every minute of it - but I understand when something has run its course. No need to beat a dead horse.

"Prodsuctions"?

DaddyTorgo 02-10-2010 08:41 AM

only if Jack dies in the movie. That'd be great.

Unless it's 24 hours long, I want a refund!

“24″ Canceled?

Posted on 09 March 2010 by Robert Seidman

Multiple sources are reporting that anonymous parties in the know at Fox have decided not to renew 24 for a ninth day and that an official announcement could come any day now. Given the comments from NBC’s Angela Bromstad last week indicating that NBC had already been talking about whether to pick up 24 should Fox pass, it doesn’t come as a big surprise that Fox is tipping its hand.

Increasingly high production costs and diminishing ratings are cited as reasons the show will end its run on Fox. Fox’s studio will surely try to shop 24 and a distressed NBC is likely the only network that would give it any serious consideration. Ultimately, I can’t see NBC wanting to pay a high price for a show long in tooth that already isn’t getting great ratings. But you never know.

If not, there’s always the prospect of movies.

Man - as much as it has seemed to decline, I will miss this show. I hope they get a proper farewell, either the end of this season or a movie.

I have lived through the good and bad days of 24 since the first season, and was always a big fan of the show. But I agree with the sentiment that this show has run its course. Last night, I noticed I had the last 3 episodes sitting on my Tivo unwatched. In years past, I would have watched it that Monday night or Tuesday at the latest. But truth is I just don't care anymore. So I deleted the three episodes and cancelled my Season Pass. If a movie does come out, I'm fairly certain I will go see it, but enough is enough for the small screen.

I'm finally done with this show, it's just so god damn repetitively awful.

Maybe on the plot twists, but have you ever SEEN a Rambo movie?

Anyone watching the new show?

DaddyTorgo 05-07-2014 12:39 PM

I tried, but since it's basically picking right up on the last season (I guess?) and I hadn't ever watched the last couple seasons I was pretty fucking confused.

I was on the phone at the very beginning though - did the first episode have some sort of couple-minute primer that might help me?

DanGarion 05-08-2014 10:41 AM

I have it recorded, I haven't been able to watch it yet.

Alan T 05-08-2014 10:45 AM

I watched it. I was hoping it would click more for me than it did though. I think the biggest issue for me was the long time it has been since I last saw 24, I honestly did not remember the status of various people from before. So I was a little confused to the role that some were playing.

After the first hour or so though, it became a little more familiar and I felt it was ok. After the first episode, I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it as much as the first few seasons of 24, but still better watching than most things on tv right now.

Kodos 05-08-2014 12:01 PM

It's worth giving a little more time, I think.

TRO 05-08-2014 01:31 PM

I really enjoyed it. Not as good as seasons 3-5, but better than 6-8.
