Tecmo Bowl Throwback

Tecmo Bowl Throwback Screenshots and Features - Operation Sports

They screwed up the playstation version, they screwed up the ds version, they messed up the wii version so badly they renamed it to something else. Lets see how they can mess this one up.

stevew 03-06-2010 11:14 PM

I can't believe I never heard of Family Fun Football. I gather it was horrible?

thesloppy 04-28-2010 10:43 PM

Looks like this just landed in the Xbox Live Arcade...who wants to be the guinea pig?

k0ruptr 04-29-2010 12:25 AM

Ive demod it so far, pretty damn fun game I enjoy it and recommend picking it up.

DeToxRox 04-29-2010 12:27 AM

Bought it, it's awesome. Put in a couple hours against my friend online. Already got my 10 bucks worth.

Racer 04-29-2010 09:31 AM

Is it 1991 or 2009 players?

Also, how much editing does the game allow (like can you edit player attributes)?

I am pretty sure it is 1991 players. I'd need to double check but in just playing with Detroit I know my RB is dominating everyone and wears #20.

Attributes aren't editable I don't think, names are though.

They have three sets of rosters. 1991, 1992, and 1993.

albionmoonlight 04-29-2010 10:01 AM

This is the first game that has caused me to regret my decision to get a Wii and not a 360 or PS3.

Kodos 04-29-2010 10:06 AM

This is where I mention that I have never played Tecmo Bowl in any iteration, an then people quickly condemn me for that.

Do you think my 5 year old could play it? I might get it if he could play me.

Yes, and he very well may beat you more than 50% of the time.

I would compare the game to poker. There is some skill involved, but even a lousy player can luck their way into a win on a semi-regular basis.

For sure. I was playing the original on Nintendo at 5 and this is no different.

What the fuck ....

Kodos 04-29-2010 10:38 AM

I never had a Nintendo. Went from Atari 2600 to Super Nintendo.

The game just released is just an updated version of the Super Nintendo/Genesis version of Super Tecmo Bowl.

I went Odyssey -> Vic 20 -> Commodore 64 -> Amiga. I never owned a game console again until the original Xbox. I only ever played anything Nintendo spare time in someone's college dorm room. So don't feel bad.

Scoobz0202 04-29-2010 03:05 PM

Just played my first online game. Won 24-0 as Houston beating KC. Pretty fucking fun.

Only problem I had was I couldn't run the ball due to lag. Seemed like my guys were constantly a half second behind what I told the controller to do. Luckily he fumbled twice and I ran one back and I had a couple big passes. My D is pretty stout though :p

Pumpy Tudors 04-29-2010 04:14 PM

I think I played some Tecmo Bowl game in the arcade, but I never played it on a console. I might try this out, but I'm not sure I'm interested in a game with early 1990s rosters. I mean, I'd probably feel like a piece of shit if I lost a game at the last second to the deadly Stan Gelbaugh-to-Tommy Kane connection.

Looks like I'm spending $10 tonight.

k0ruptr 04-29-2010 06:12 PM

its cool, the rosters are fake names but It seems clear to me that they match up perfectly with these:

GameFAQs: Tecmo Super Bowl (SNES) Roster FAQ by Toad22484

I think its 1993.

Pyser 04-29-2010 09:11 PM

played it. loved it. bought it.

Oilers9911 04-29-2010 09:52 PM

Dear God, please let them bring back Baseball Stars!

kingnebwsu 04-29-2010 09:58 PM

Having fun with it so far. Definitely worth $10. It's so weird not having PAT's be automatic. I jammed on the A button on my first one and it clanked off the upright. I never missed a PAT in Tecmo Super Bowl (unless it was blocked). With no 2-point conversions, the PAT's are really crucial. It's fun to switch between 2-D & 3-D on the fly. Something to do mid-game.

That would be amazing.

Kodos 04-30-2010 09:48 AM

This isn't on PSN yet, seemingly. Maybe the 360 version would be a wiser choice, in case I want to play FOFCers.

Yes, more than likely if you wanna play against fofc people, the 360 is the way to go. Id assume this to be the same for 90% of games.

Imagine that game with deeper and slightly more realistic career play? I'd be housebound forever.

ColtCrazy 05-01-2010 03:24 PM

Excellent. I have some Microsoft points I haven't used in a month. Now I have something to pick up.

Kodos 05-01-2010 09:04 PM

Hmmm. I bought it last night. I wonder if nostalgia colors most impressions of the game. Wasn't all that impressed. So few plays. Is there a way you can choose which receiver the QB targets?

stevew 05-01-2010 09:59 PM

what the fuck.

press A (i think) while you are in the pocket, it cycles through a different receiver every time u press it, you will see an icon on the receiver.

The Neo Geo version of Baseball Stars 2 is on the Wii Virtual Console.

stevew 05-01-2010 10:35 PM

When's this going on to the PSN. The wait is annoying.

DanGarion 05-01-2010 11:31 PM

Played 5 games of this today. Brings back a lot of memories, plays just like it did 18 years ago.

Yes, it is the A button to change receivers that the QB is targeting.

Pyser 05-06-2010 01:40 PM

anyone find a way to download the correct names yet?

Mizzou B-ball fan 06-02-2010 04:02 PM

FYI.....PS3 version was put on PSN yesterday for those who might be interested.

stevew 06-02-2010 09:18 PM

about fuckin time

panerd 06-02-2010 09:40 PM

Educate a novice here as I am definitely interested in this. I just bought Red Dead Redemption and I have been having a blast with single player and now Tecmo is out on the playstation network... what exactly do I have to do to join the playstation network? Is it free, if not how do I go about paying? Was interested in picking up some Beatles songs for Rock Band over Christmas but didn't feel like fucking with it then. I really am not cheap, and am somewhat tech saavy, I just am really lazy sometimes. :)

Yah, it's free. All you need to do is plug in a network cable and sign up via your ps3. :)

Thanks. Now I really feel lazy. I thought I would have to give them a credit card and personal information and didn't feel like dealing with that.

MizzouRah 11-18-2012 09:47 PM

Wow.. downloaded the 2013 rosters and fired up the emulator. This game is still fun.

Replayed the Rams vs Jets game today, except this time Rams win 21-7 :)

Time to start a season!

I just stick with the original tsb. Still fun throwing bombs to Rice or mowing people over with Bo

miked 11-19-2012 12:05 PM

I preferred Okoye and Word...though it was fun with QB Eagles.

Izulde 11-19-2012 01:01 PM

Just bought it.

Had no idea such a thing existed.

Julio Riddols 08-09-2016 04:58 PM

Tecmobowl.org releases a new version every year too, 32 teams, all the bells and whistles.

If a legit career mode is ever created, I'll lose my shit.
