2010 MLS Thread (Official?)

Figured since the season is about to kick off that we needed a thread.

I guess since it now feels like I have a horse in the race maybe I'll pay a little more atention to the league. Go Union! :)

I had no idea the season started tonight. I'm a very casual MLS fan. The last I heard their players were close to a strike. Good to see they worked it out.

I'll be paying closer attention this year myself. Just moved from Detroit to Chicago so I have a team now. :)

EagleFan 03-25-2010 09:03 PM

Lousy weather in Seattle for the game, but I guess it wouldn't be Seattle without lousy weather.

Nice goal to start the season off.

*chants PISS ON THE FIRE* :D

Yeah, we don't like Chicago round these parts. We used to like ending their season, though :D

Bad goal... bad goal... ;)

Frustrating to see it setup, they were looking okay up until that point.

illinifan999 03-25-2010 09:11 PM

Oh wow. That was just....not good.

EagleFan 03-25-2010 09:13 PM

The counter-attack is eating them alive, should be 2-0 if not for the shank.

EagleFan 03-25-2010 09:15 PM

I'll give them credit so far, they are not sitting back.

miami_fan 03-25-2010 09:21 PM

Some clumsy tackling out there.

EagleFan 03-25-2010 09:23 PM

Can he milk that "back injury" any more?

RedKingGold 03-25-2010 10:24 PM

I'm trying to get into the Philadelphia Union and soccer in general this year.

I'll admit that the only reason I'm following the Union is because (1) I live right outside Philadelphia, and (2) the "Union" resonates with me because I live/practice labor law.

EagleFan 03-25-2010 10:26 PM

Looks like it's not going to be a good result for game number one.

Landshark44 03-25-2010 10:31 PM

i'll try to get to a couple of union games, for sure....

their new stadium looks awesome...

EagleFan 03-25-2010 10:39 PM

A Philly-area FOFC outing to see the Union?

Big Fo 03-26-2010 12:23 AM

The soccer thread already gets some MLS discussion (in addition to the European leagues and national team stuff) and it moves pretty slowly, it's not like college football and NFL which get 300+ post threads each week so it makes sense for them to be separated. But if people want a separate MLS thread that's cool too.

I wish the season opener hadn't been going on at the same time as March Madness, I'll catch one of the games this weekend.

With the Union having strong support years before getting a team (Philly fans would to travel down/up to DC, NYC, and Boston to cheer for the road teams :D) I think they'll be another quick success like Seattle and Toronto were in terms of popularity.

I've already talked to my friend about getting tickets for the May 15th game, then heading out to Harrah's for slots and horse gambling after.

Could always meet up at Harrah's if people were interested.

Glad to see the Sounders get off to a good start, I definitely plan on going to a few of their games this year. The support for the team is great and the atmosphere at their games is awesome. I went to the Barcelona game last year and had a blast.

Fun time and nice result though I think the wet weather affected the quality of play. I got soaked, but the beer and flask I brought in helped a lot with that. :)

Young Drachma 03-26-2010 01:10 PM

I think I might adopt Philly as my favorite MLS team. I can't support Red Bull because I hate the idea of a team with a corporate name the way they did it. Though I do look forward to checking out their new spaceship stadium in Harrison. Well and I can't bring myself to adopt any Colorado teams as a favorite yet, alas...the Union might be it for me.
