OT: NWN Online (trying again)
There seemed to be some interest in playing NWN online as a group.... but never materialized on any large scale.
I may be available to play some this afternoon or evening. Is anyone else interested? We could find a server, form a party, and go from there. I have some characters in various stages of development on various servers, but would also be perfectly willing to begin again. Any interest? |
I have NWN, but have never played online.... Is there a specific site that explains what you need to do to create an online character?
If I can get a character organized and ready to play, I would be in...just name a time. |
It was a while since I played it last, but a friend recently got into it, so I fired it up again, and I am hooked! Just in time for the expansion to come out at the end of the month!
I am in if we want to get an FOFC server going! |
I would be up for some NWN online during the evenings. Email me at [email protected].

Yes?
No? |
I'll give it another try. What are the specifics?
|
Okay, if you have not played online before, there's a very easy way to do so.
In the game's main menu, where you would ordinarily select "New" or "Load" - instead you select "Multiplayer." Set up a player name and password, and you will then go to a screen asking where the game is hosted. For our purposes, choose "Join Internet Game." That will take you to the GameSpy host, where there are num nerous servers liisted. Basically, you just pick one, and go play there. You may either use a "local" character - that you have saved from playing alone or online, or you will have to play a "vault" character, saved on the game server. (The former allows an awful lot of abuse, as you might imagine) That's really all there is to it. Lately, I have spent a little time at this site: Server: Darkcrystal-PoolofRadiance Module Name: PoolofRadiance If anyone wants to swing by there, both Fritz and I have been there from time to time. If I'm online, send me a message - I'll come find you and we can go hack stuff together. |
How is the PoR mod?
|
Is it possible to play on servers that *only* allow vault characters? I think it would frustrate me to the point of ruining the game if there was no way to avoid playing with "local" chracters

Yes. And I agree - that's all I will play now. the server I listed above is "vault" only, as are quite a few of the better ones. You can see the "server details" for each one listed, and see what their restrictions are. It's a big help before deciding to start spoending time somewhere. |
What does "vault" mean?

Seems pretty well done. I've dabble daround for a while, and still have large areas that I have not yet seen. The system of assigning "quests" is pretty structured, but you are not bound to do things in any order, which I like. |

Okay, but it gets messed up if you play with more than one party. A few of the screens are tediously large (the maze near the end is a pain in the ass.) Quik - you are bound to some degree, but the MP aspect throws the scripts. |
KWhit, from above:

Fritz, it sound slike you may have exhausted PoR... do you have another server that has caught your eye?

I got fed up with the broken plots and DLed the mod for solo play. A decent mod, but it could translate better to an "open" server. I have not touched PoR since we last played. Wargames have my free time. |
Ah, wargames.
|
Well, if anyone is interested, I will be on the Pool of Radiance site, listed above, for the next hour or so. If anyone wants to get started on that site, I have a fairly veteran character who can run you around a bit, if youu like.
