Rock Band 3
Looks like Newegg kinda broke street date on this one... (well, a week beforehand is not quite breaking street date, more like smashing it to bits with a sledgehammer), getting good results, apparently one of the guys over at SA was already doing the Endless Setlist 3 on streaming last night.
Lots of interesting features in this one.. hopefully it can keep the music genre alive for a bit, since Guitar Hero has apparently breathed its last.. (GH 6 Warriors of Rock sold about 76K copies in the first week, in comparison, even GH5 sold 500K in the first week, and GHWT sold something like 1.7 million!) |
I'm definitely getting this and the at least the drum cymbals.
In about a week I'll break down and get the keyboard. And in about a week after that I'll break down further and get the guitar. |
I'm bummed that the full guitar add on (the squier stringed one) isn't out till early 2011.

MadCatz is releasing one on RB3's launch date. Newegg.com - MADCATZ Xbox 360 Rock Band 3 Wireless Mustang Guitar Controller Red |
That's the "buttons" one. (it's got the six strings for the strummer, but the frets are replaced by 200 or so buttons.)
The one I was referring to is a fully stringed modified squier that you could actually plug into an amp and play |
aka PING: Quiksand

No "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant"?

You had me at the Doors - now this is just icing on the cake. |

If the hits were truly Billy Joel-Driven they would have been pulled over and given a DUI before ever reaching RB3. |
I plan to get this, but I'm not a big release date purchaser. I'll buy the pack with the keyboard.
I don't play RB a TON, but I like to play it in fits and spurts. I'm not all that good at it really, but it's a fun game. I have RB2 and Band Hero (the wife prefers Band Hero song selection, so I tolerate it). |
So the Keyboard/Game isn't available for the PS3 as it is for the other two systems?
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! |
I can't wait. My wife is buying this for me for my Xmas present, and the real question will be whether we keep it under wraps until then or if she lets me play it sooner than that.
On the stringed guitar controller, I'm OK waiting - I'll probably want to play all the songs on the normal controller first anyway before starting in on learning to play the actual guitar. On a semi-related note - my existing guitar controller is starting to give out - the green fret button is now only registering roughly 60% of the time. From what I've seen, supposedly the newest version of the wireless guitar controller has improved fret button feel to make it easier to slide between notes. Anyone had a chance to pick up one of those newest controllers yet? Is there any noticeable difference in the button and strummer action on it? My other option is to frankenstein together my two existing guitar controllers - my first one has a bad strummer, but the fret buttons work so I could try opening them up and seeing if I can grab the fret button electronics out of the first one and put them in the second one. Of course, I'm not exactly a technical wiz, so if I go that route I might end up having to buy a new one anyway ;) |
I actually prefer the Guitar Hero guitars and use those, so I'm not much help ;).

Best Buy is giving a $15 gc with a purchase of RB3 and the keyboard....
|
Notes: If you do not have your RB2 manual, guess what? You're locked out of exporting to RB3. (went and ordered a new $20 copy of the game.. *sighs*)
70 of the 84 songs export, of the 14 that do not, nine of them (the Harmonix bands) will reappear in a free Harmonix DLC, and 5 of them are gone int he ether: They are: * AC/DC – Let There Be Rock * Journey – Any Way You Want It * Metallica – Battery * Red Hot Chili Peppers – Give It Away * Soundgarden – Spoonman |
Is there a fee for exporting RB2 songs?
|
$10
|
How about exporting RB1 and RB 2 songs?
|
RB1, if you've already exported, you don't have to do so again.
RB2, as I said above. |
Well my copy shipped for PS3. Hopefully it will be coming Thursday. Any FOFC bands?
|
sorry, 360 here. I do want to do a FOFC Rock Band Night though
|
How the heck do you export RB1 and RB2 songs to RB3?

Not in front of the game atm but I thought I tried the options menu and I didn't see anything.
I do like in RB3 there are plenty of in game achievements to gain - and keyboard on pro level is very challenging. So far I'm enjoying the purchase... |
I keep trying to enter the code on the back of my RB2 manual, but it keeps telling me there was an issue and to try again later. Since the website doesn't seem to be up yet (still gives me the "Sound Check" page), I'm just messing around and trying to ride it out. Keyboards on Pro mode are hard. The shifts catch you off guard a bit. My piano lessons aren't transferring to the game as well as I had hoped.
|
Looks like if you don't have the manual you can ask EA support for export codes.

Rock Band 3 is ready to receive the 1.93GB Rock Band 2 song export. RockBandAide details the export process (actually a track pack download) that requires $10 and the code from the back of your Rock Band 2 instruction manual, originally used for some bonus downloadable tracks. To redeem the code, go into the "Get More Songs" menu in Rock Band 3 and head on over to the "Redeem Code" option.
|
And it's the green "DOWNLOAD MORE SONGS" thing, not the manual
|
Not a big deal, really. I just called EA support and after being on hold for 20 minutes, they gave me an export code.
|
Any word on the Wii version? How about other RB versions? Any of those import?
SI |
FYI: anyone who needs to call EA for the export code
"For a new export code, call this EA number from anywhere in the world. Depending on where you are you might need to add +1 -(650) 628-1001". |

I don't believe any of the Wii versions do exports, although the more recent ones support DLC. |

http://www.rockband.com/support/expo...rtrockband2wii Actually it looks like some songs might export for the Wii. |
Nice to see that the old songs have Pro Drum Charts
|
Can someone explain to me something about the Squier controller? How does it know where your fingers are? Does it have buttons along the fretboard like the Madcatz controller just with strings over them?
|
Um, there's two pro guitars. Both of them have six strings that you have to pick/press I believe, the Madcatz one just has the hundreds of buttons along the fretboard while the Squier has strings all the way up
|
I would assume that the Squier will be using Midi pickups to determine which notes are being played, but I don't know for sure.
|
So can someone explain how the exporting of all songs work?
For RB1, I no longer have the game disc but I have all of the songs on the hard drive. Is this fine, or will I need to somehow obtain a game disc? For RB2, my disc is scratched and doesn't really load, although I still have the manual. I assume that I will need to only acquire a working copy of the disc, and not a new original version of the game. For DLC, I assume that all transfers are automatic. Any help? |
If you've already exported the RB1 songs, you're golden.
RB2: Not 100% sure (I'll know more how it works tonight when I get home), but when you enter the code, you download a track pack with the 70 songs (not sure if that uses what's on your HD or a seperate (LARGE) download) DLC: Does transfer automatically. I'll have 260 songs when I do the transfer tonight :) |
Quote:
For PS3 you do not need the game disc, just the manual. I exported my songs tonight. There is about a 2GB download however. The link I posted upthread is for Rock Band's exporting guide, check it out. |
Finally getting my keyboard bundle delivered today, I see a few of you on Xbox Live already playing the Keys. My gamertag on Xbox Live is Mota if anybody wants to add me to compare leaderboards, send a bit of trash talking, etc. :)
|
Quote:
Can anyone answer this for XBOX? I assume it would be the same. Also, has anyone tried the AC/DC disc and if so, how does that transfer work. I don't have it, but I see that it can be picked up pretty cheap now. |
Quote:
Chances are (unless you put in the AC/DC disc every time to play) you've already copied your AC/DC to the hard drive to play with RB2. If so, it will transfer automatically. Mine did. |
I'm having a hard time with just the training sessions for pro-keyboard. How in the heck am I ever going to be able to play a song?
|
Quote:
I think the rule of thumb is anything you've exported before, you do not need to export again. So if you had RB2 fully loaded with everything, you should only need to export RB2->RB3 and you'll have access to everything. |
Quote:
It is REALLY hard so far. It's hard enough figuring out 5 buttons when you first learn an instrument, I'm seeing chords flying around and have NO IDEA which buttons to press. I think I'm going to regular Keys to start. |
Quote:
Slow it down to a crawl until you get use to hitting the correct keys. I was having a hard time until I slowed it down and jumped up the speed gradually until I was able to play it in "real speed". Hope that helps 'cause the more I'm playing the keyboard in pro mode- the better I get and it is awesome! |
I only wish we could port songs from RB: Beatles
|
Quote:
+1 - that would be sweet Wonder if they will try to double dip and start releasing DLC Beatles for RB3?? |
Quote:
Amen. Not being able to do this was a mistake that cost them sales. I know I would have picked up the add-on stuff for Beatles if I could import. I really like playing The Beatles but I hate being confined to just them so I ended up not getting any of the other albums. I thought my son said the Green Day version songs could be imported and played with Rock Band2 so, maybe importing The Beatles was prohibited in the contract? |
