NFL Week 8 Discussion Thread: Randy Moss Claimed on Waivers by the Titans

Tony Romo, Brett Favre and Alex Smith were all injured in Week 7. Taking their place in Week 8 will be Jon Kitna, Tarvaris Jackson and Heisman winner Troy Smith.

molson 10-27-2010 11:58 AM

At a Pats fan, I'm certainly hoping Favre can tough it out and get on the field for one more week.

Mustang 10-27-2010 12:51 PM

I haven't seen any comets, supernovas or other astrological signs nor has a souless child been born so, Favre will play. He will play 1 or 2 series, be ineffective and then cry afterwards in a press conference and sit out next week. No way in hell does he want his streak to have started with a GB game and end with a GB game.

Yes, I'm that much of a pessimist about Favre.

albionmoonlight 10-27-2010 01:34 PM

The Saints, after getting embarrassed by the Browns at home, host the Steelers on Sunday night.

The Saints have the ability to beat the Steelers. But, ability is only part of the equation. Who knows what version of the Saints will show up? And the Steelers are playing the best football in the league right now, IMHO.

I'm a Pats fan and I would rather face an immobile Favre whose pride will keep him throwing prayers than Jackson, for sure.

Doesn't Favre still have one good game left since his mom is alive?

(yeah, that's going to look really bad if his mom did die, especially recently)

You certainly hope Favre doesnt play and saying anything else just makes it seem your hatred for Favre has disrupted your train of thought or you really dont mean it and want to draw attention to the comment.

In either the case the Vikings chances arent great but certainly Favre is their best option especially against a team with very little pass rush.

The Pats aren't exactly a "shootout" team anymore. And if the Vikings think their best hope is Favre carrying them - that's the strategy I'd want my team to face.

The Vikings could easily outplay the Pats but "Favre" the game away. That's why opponents of the Vikings want to see him in there.

With Jackson, (or Joe Webb), you can at least reign the guy in an try to win with a conservative offense and a solid defense.

As long as the Vikings have Bobo Childress calling plays it doesn't matter who they have playing QB.

Rizon 10-27-2010 02:31 PM

I know I'd rather my team face Bretterception Favre than whatever that other guy's name is.

Lathum 10-27-2010 02:32 PM

all I know is there are 31 starting quarterbacks that are glad the Giants are on a bye this week.

Do you think the Giants would be willing to come back to Indianapolis? There are some fans that still want a souvenir Giants helmet.

I think they are a very different team then they were in week 2 and would give the Colts a game.

My comment was about how the Giants have shelved 5 QBs in the 7 games they have played. I give you a C- for the effort made to wedge that comment in there.

The Seahawks get em next week, so all those calling for Whitehurst may get their wish, for better or worse.

I know, I'll be at the game!!!!

BillJasper 10-27-2010 02:54 PM

I start playing Jackson.

The Vikings slow start combined with Favre's poor play have eliminated any hope this team had at playing in a Super Bowl. Which was the whole reason he came back.

You have to begin to define what your future is at the QB position.

26, subtracting the 5 other teams on bye this week as well.

I was to lazy to do the math.

Ksyrup 10-27-2010 03:15 PM

Actually, the list is probably down to about 5 or 6 teams, if you factor in the rest of the Giants schedule. :p

Neuqua 10-27-2010 03:15 PM

Reading what jbergey says to defend Favre in one post and then reading what he says to hate on Cutler in another is quite amusing.

It's well past time to throw last year's stats out the window given that he already has more picks this year than last season (and is almost on pace to match his career worst in that category). Given that his next lowest season total was 13 and he has gone as high as 29 (threw 22 just a season before his magical 7 interception season) and that his WR aren't bailing him out on poorly thrown balls like they did last year (I still can't believe some of the catches Rice pulled off last year), well, it's not like 7 is the norm for this guy.

Is Jackson a better option? Probably if the injury reports on Favre are accurate. Hell, even if he's fairly healthy it's starting to look more and more like he can't be too much worse than what Favre is bringing to the season this year.

Ronnie Dobbs2 10-27-2010 03:44 PM

Favre's MVPs and rings were at least 13 years ago.

How many players have seen their whole career go by in that time span?

Pumpy Tudors 10-27-2010 03:46 PM

I just heard from an insider that Missouri basketball coach Mike Anderson is in the running to start at QB for the Cowboys, Vikings, and 49ers this week. He's also jumped Tim Tebow and Champ Bailey on Denver's depth charts.

I give myself a D+ for throwing this unnecessary post into this thread.

Nobody is saying anything about "how wonderful life would be for the Vikings" under other options. But Favre, espeically a gimpy Favre, doesn't exactly set the bar very high for what you need to replace him to have a better cahnce to win. Why is Jackson still on the team if he's worthless? There's plenty of unemployed QBs out there.

Time to bench the 20 million dollar man - Vikings Open Discussion

I'd say 50-50 is a conservative estimate at this board.

This is starting to turn into a mini Ditka-esque SNL skit.

How many points would the Pats be favored by if Favre had no legs...

It wouldn't be an official Brett Favre dick sucking contest if jbergey22 wasn't involved.

The Rams aren't playing for a super bowl this year. It makes perfect sense to play Bradford.

#2 and #12 got swapped on that list for some reason..

Right?

Sun Tzu 10-27-2010 04:36 PM

Sam Bradford...a rookie who is playing on a team with practically zero offensive talent (minus SJ of course), a team that only won one game last year, is having a better year than Brett Favre. I don't quite see how you're helping your argument along here...

I would think what it suggests is that a team in rebuilding mode (Rams) can live with a QB struggling to adjust to life in the NFL (especially when the pieces around him aren't exactly top of the line past Steven Jackson) while a team like Minnesota needs more production out of that spot and should exhaust all available resources at their disposal rather than relying on an option that isn't proving up to the task at this point whether it's age or health (or both) related.

If Favre were 100% healthy and just going through a slump, likely a different story to a degree, but given his injuries and struggles so far, why not give Jackson a shot? He may not have lit it up previously, but it's pretty hard to imagine him being worse than what Favre is giving the Vikings right now. Worst case is he goes in and performs at a similar level to what you're getting right now, but at least it gives Favre a chance to get healthier. Best case he comes in, something has "clicked" for him since he saw significant on field action last, and he goes on to lead the team to some success.

I'm not really seeing where the down side is for the Vikings right now other than ending Favre's games started streak.

Scoobz0202 10-27-2010 04:41 PM

I'm not going to pile it on you, Jbergey, because I can understand how hearing shit talked about your favorite teams quarterback can get old. But what makes you think that just because you are the Vikings fan in this argument only YOU know the Vikings?

And I suspect though, that that might be the #1 and only consideration in this decision process.

I haven't seen a person be charmed this much by an former enemy since Thulsa Doom almost did it to Conan.

Oh.. and it's Favre's Cock. Didn't want that post to show up in the 'posts that make me cringe' thread. ;)
