Getting an installation error (not installing or re-installing)

Certainly, not an FOF "emergency", -- I can work around it. But am getting annoyed trying to "fix" it.

What DOESN'T work :
I cannot load the game from my start menu or taskbar (my preference). I get the following errors :

What DOES work :
Creating a shortcut on my desktop and using that.
Using the copy of the original app file I made. (works even on taskbar & start menu)
Renaming my current file, and running it. (works on taskbar and start menu too)

Maybe the message here is that you shouldn't be fucking around with Stephen's computer there, Doug.

lol. Nicely played :).

For "the record" though, it's the same person :P. (Stephen Douglas, and have always 'went by' my middle. The shop that set up my cpu made it Stephen.)

Anyone know anything about this ?
(My original question I mean, as - well I fear if I don't clarify that .... someone will ramble on about how they know something about being called by their middle name. haha)

I'm confused. You've already installed the game, right?

So what are you trying to run? The game itself? Why does it seem like you are trying to run a setup file. But then you said you are NOT installing or uninstalling.

DougW 11-03-2010 07:45 PM

Exactly. I've had, and have been playing the game for quite a while. And I always have opened it from my taskbar. Then, just yesterday, for no rhyme or reason, it gives me error messages like I'm setting it up. -

But, only when I open from the taskbar or start menu. I can open it just fine in the folder, or even create a shortcut to my desktop and open that just fine. I can even rename the FrFoot2007 App file, and move it to my taskbar - and that will open just fine - even from the taskbar.

Just is really odd to me.

Okay. Basically, what I'm gathering is this:

1) FrFoot2007.exe works. Shortcuts you create to it work. The shortcut that currently exists in the start menu, doesn't.

My guess then is for some reason, the shortcut you have in the start menu is pointing to the wrong file (specifically, a temporary installation file that probably isn't there anymore). Create a shortcut of the exe and replace the one in the start menu with that.

DougW 11-03-2010 11:04 PM

Not what I'm saying Aston :)

It does not work as FrFoot2007.exe in my taskbar or startup menu at all. It works if launched from the FOF folder, or from a shortcut on desktop or any other place. But does not work in my taskbar or startup menu.

It does, however, work in my taskbar or startup menu if I rename the file and then drag it.

It's .... just .. really .. weird.

aston217 11-03-2010 11:06 PM

Hold up, what do you mean, "in" your taskbar or start menu?

FrFoot2007.exe should exist ONLY in your FOF installation folder...it depends on all the other stuff in that folder to run.

DougW 11-04-2010 01:54 AM

I mean ... If I right click on the games executable file, and select "Pin to taskbar" or "Pin to Start Menu" - or if I drag it to either place .... it doesn't work when I try to use the shortcut that was created.

It does work if I create a shortcut to my desktop and use that, or if I just open the game straight from the "Front Office Football 2007" folder.

It also does work if I rename it first, and then pin or drag it to the taskbar or Start Menu.

But, under the default name - the game will not work while pinned to my taskbar or start menu and gives me the above error messages.
