Any FOFC'ers who have knowledge of Sarasota, FL need some help
So my girlfriend has a chance to potentially get a graduate Nursing gig at Sarasota Hospital. One of her clinical instructors put her in touch with a friend who works there and things are in motion but it is still a fairly long process (job availability isn't confirmed until next month). Anyway, the residency is a 10 week minimum deal, but it guarantees a job at the hospital upon completion with an 18 month commitment.
We're both researching the area now, but I figured I'd check here for any first hand knowledge. How is the city or any of the surrounding cities? I am planning on going for a masters, what colleges are around the area? Anything will do. Thanks. |
Just a clarification: Sarasota, FL or Sarasota Springs, NY?

Dola, I do know Randy Savage was billed from Sarasota. So that is one in the plus column.

Sarasota is huge retirement destination.

Yeah I have read that. Not a real deal breaker but not a positive really either. Just kind of a neutral deal at this point I'd suppose. Heard Rick Barnes plans on retiring there after Friday for the rest of the tournament. |
I just figured this was where you were running to in shame after the beatdown. The farthest away you could get and still be in the contiguous 48 states. Looking at Oakland's D, I think Dogus Balbay will have a 20/20 game.

The only positive you should be thinking about is that you have a girl way out of your league who is willing to take you to Florida. |
I have not lived in the area (actually Venice, but saw a lot of Sarasota) in 20 years or so. Sarasota was one of the richest areas of the country way back when due to the number of retired judges, doctors, etc there. The whole county is an interesting mix of retirees and young kids that leads to some interesting social dynamics. The fundamental problem is, at least back then, there was almost NOTHING to do for teenagers and young couples. It's all shopping and some movie theaters. You need to head up to Tampa or on to Orlando for a lot of other stuff. Otherwise it's a nice place to live.
But again that's 20 year old information, I'm not sure how it's grown / changed since then. |
Michigan...Florida...hmmmmm. To shovel snow or to not shovel snow, that is the question.
|
It's been a while since I had any time to spend there, but it's certainly an urban enough area, and there are huge numbers of retirees there. Greg is still right about the dynamic, but there is enough beach, the weather is nicer there on the coast than further inland. I don't think you would be terribly disappointed with it. Yummy fish.

I hear it's warm in Sarasota most of the time.
Hey, you just said "knowledge", you didn't specify "useful". |
